April 30, 2025 at 11:52 amI never thought I’d have to write something like this, but here we are.My mother, a retired woman who worked hard all her life, was quietly removed from the pension records and declared dead. Why? Because she lives in a remote area with no mobile network. She didn’t receive a single call. Nobody physically verified anything. No local officer visited. No letter was sent. Just a digital decision that stripped her of her pension and her dignity — all because she wasn’t “available” for confirmation.
The worst part? It’s not her fault — it’s the system’s fault. It’s the government’s fault (or whoever is responsible) for failing to provide basic infrastructure like mobile network coverage in that area. When the state itself fails to ensure connectivity, how can it turn around and punish the citizens for being unreachable?
This is not just about one pension. It’s about the basic rights of human beings in India — especially the elderly, the poor, and those in places that the digital revolution still hasn’t touched.
When governance is fully digital but connectivity is a privilege, what happens to people like my mom?
She is alive. She cooks, prays, laughs — and now, she’s fighting to prove that she exists to a system that carelessly decided otherwise. All this because of a silent oversight buried in a bureaucracy that no one wants to take responsibility for.
I want every policymaker to see this. We need accountability. We need offline alternatives. We need basic infrastructure. And above all, we need to treat our elders with dignity — not reduce them to a checkbox in a disconnected database.

April 30, 2025 at 2:48 pmNobody gets “declared dead”. The pension simply stops if you don’t submit life certificate. Pension resumes from the next month once you submit the life certificate. It’s a pretty straightforward thing. He can do it both offline and even via an app using his mobile phone or desktop. It’s a 5 minute solution using his phone. It probably took him more time to whine about this on the Internet in 5 different subs.-

April 30, 2025 at 3:13 pmMoreover, this is anyway NOT “an apt” case for complaint on CPGRAMS. Read up the definition of grievance under CPGRAMS before calling it an “apt” case. This is a complaint, not a grievance. Complaint becomes a grievance ONLY WHEN IT IS NOT ATTENDED DO. This is not even a fit case to be a complaint. Because it’s not the government that’s at fault, it’s the individual. What will he complain against? For him forgetting to submit a life certificate?

April 30, 2025 at 12:04 pmWhat type of pensioner is your mother? Retired employee of Central government, state government, psu? Or old age pensioner?
In most cases they have multiple modes to provide life certificate. It can be done digitally using the app, by postman coming home, by visiting the bank where pension credited or getting gazetted officer signature?
Was her pension denied despite providing life certificate just because they could not contact her over the phone? You can complain in CPGrams -

April 30, 2025 at 12:11 pmNot sure why you’re ranting here when it’s clearly your fault. I know you didnt wanna hear this but that’s how system (should work) works. Every year or half year pensionars have to submit a life certificate. Failure to do so will stop the pension after 4 months. My mom failed to submit and her pension stopped. After a while she passed away and to claim those 4 months, the effort was monumental which wasnt worth the time it required. In your case, just submit that certificate and she’ll get the pension.
You’ll be surprised to know that a lot of times, people keep accepting pensions after their parents pass away. This procedure keeps them in check.

April 30, 2025 at 2:09 pmHonestly it’s your fault. My grandpa is a pensioner to Madras Corporation. He has to provide a yearly life certificate within 2-4 weeks of his birthday. It can either be done by visiting Rippon building in chennai or through any India Post office / Corporation Bank branch in India. Failing to do so will remove his name from the pension list. This is a known fact by all pensioners he’s 91 years old and does this by himself every year.

April 30, 2025 at 2:42 pmYou haven’t told what kind of pension it is. If it’s a family pension or normal pension after retirement, what you are saying simply cannot happen. It’s the pensioners’ responsibility to submit the annual life certificate to the Pension disbursing authority. If the pensioner doesn’t do what they are supposed to do, the pension will obviously be stopped. -

May 1, 2025 at 12:35 amDid you submit your mother’s life certificate in November then you did this to her.Our government did some good work here. They removed bank visit with a mobile app and aadhaar authentication. Rather than understanding why this happened you are complaining.
No one can declare anybody dead without a death certificate. They might have told you missed submitting a life certificate and you concluded she is presumed dead.
Please spend some effort and submit a life certificate and inform the pension office or send a copy it’s that simple.
Also regarding government failure did you complain to your MLA or MP. Our government consists of mla and mp. It’s their responsibility to take people issues with the government. If none of you complain to them how the system will improve

May 1, 2025 at 5:47 amYou are completely at fault here, all pensioners have to submit life certificate every year and there are multiple modes available for that. Also they don’t declare people dead immediately. When you didn’t recieve the pension for a month you should have reached the bank.Don’t go off ranting and blaming for your negligence and carelessness.
