Hi everyone, I’m in a really stressful situation and could use some guidance.

My mother recently took a loan and the amount has been credited to her bank account. However, in order to withdraw the funds, the bank requires biometric authentication — specifically, fingerprint verification linked to Aadhaar.

The problem is: my mother’s fingerprints have started fading. The biometric scanner at the bank is unable to verify her identity. We went to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update/re-enroll her fingerprints, but even their scanner couldn’t register her prints — they said the scanner failed to capture them properly.

Now we’re stuck. The money is there, but we can’t access it because her Aadhaar authentication keeps failing. IRIS and face authentication weren’t offered at the center we visited.

        We’ve already tried:

Visiting an Aadhaar center (scanner couldn’t capture new fingerprints)

Talking to the bank (they insist only fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication is allowed)

        We haven’t yet:

Tried another Aadhaar center with better equipment

Filed a grievance with UIDAI or the bank’s higher-ups

        Has anyone faced this before?

Can we request Aadhaar to add IRIS or facial data for future verification?

Is the bank allowed to give an alternate verification route?

Any legal/official path to escalate this?

I’d really appreciate any help, suggestions, or shared experiences. Thank you.

They cannot deny transactions. Please raise it with RBI ombudsman.

Can’t say what the alternate would be but people have been facing problems due to fading fingerprints for a long time now.

Give a cheque to yourself or some other account and withdraw

Most probably fingerprint on cheque will also fail.

                    >Can we request Aadhaar to add IRIS or facial data for future verification?

There should be an Iris or Optic scan provision from Aadhar also afaik

                    >Is the bank allowed to give an alternate verification route?

If you are not even able to get iris scan then some affidavit being signed by the bank authority should also work. But some bank employees are unaware abd yiu have to sorta escalate things

Is this loan something related to government schemes?

As far as I know Aadhar authentication happens via OTP too. You should receive an OTP on the registered mobile number for your Aadhar card. I have an super senior relative whose KYC needed to be done at Indian bank and obv they could not go to the bank so I was able to do it via OTP. Request for OTP based Aadhar authentication.

This exactly but it will depend on the bank

Visit some other adhar centre with complete facilities of IRIS etc. my fingerprints and IRIS thing when I was a kid were not matching with when I went to give entrance exam and they were not letting me sit. I got my aadhar updated with everything new.

My father‘s fingerprint failed. It was a difficult situation. I don’t know how we resolved it.

Most probably it’s the finger print reader at fault. I face this every year in post office while getting her jeevan praman get made. Then go to a local office and their finger print reader is new and it registers the finger print.

Had the same problem in registration of a house. I got a power of attorney to solve the problem. Consult a lawyer for guidance.

Doctors certificate helps in this case. Talk to the bank manager about it.

I think aadhar also has an option for eye biometry or something like that

My mom’s 78 and her finger prints faded long back she has her pension but needs finger prints to provide proof of life. After a lot of roaming found a center which has IRIS scanner. So no we go there every year

I recently visited aadhar to update some details. They took my iris and finger tips again. Maybe you can try this.
