My mom left home about a year and a half ago. She’s living with a guy she met online, and we can’t get in touch with her at all.

She’s taken out loans and credit cards from several banks, and even bought a car for this guy. It looks like he tricked her into it, and now she’s really unhappy.

My parents had joint accounts, so all the debt she racked up is falling on my dad. We think this guy was after her money, and she thought he’d give her the respect she felt she was missing. We’ve heard she’s in a really bad situation.
We’re trying to find her, but no luck. We’re getting bombarded with calls and legal notices from banks every day. The total debt is probably over 15 lakh rupees.

Just today, debt collectors showed up with some big guys, demanding money. When I said I’d take legal action, they said I’d have to pay anyway, and suggested we pay in installments. But I’m unemployed and my dad’s a pensioner, so we can’t afford that.

We really need help figuring out how to deal with this.

Please clarify if the ba k account are joint, or the loan accounts are also joint? If it’s just the bank accounts, clarify that to the collection agents. If it’s the loan accounts that are joint, then wtf

Loan accounts are joint. Credit card & loans were taking on my dad’s name.

Just trying to understand here, so the gentleman willingly signed as co-applicant for the loans and credit cards after the lady deserted?

What I remember is she use to tell him oh this is a β€œconformation” call from back

You just need to share your xyz and validate the points. Rest will be taken care of

After meeting the bank people, they did agree that this is possible as joint bank allow the spouse to take the loan and credit card in the name of the employed person.
