March 27, 2025 at 4:07 amHey Everyone.
So me (28 F) gave money to my then boyfriend (29 M) who had lost his job during covid. He needed money to start a business and I gave it to him breaking my pf. He also had lost his uncle and dog at that time (2020). After 6 months I found out he already had a girlfriend and I was being played. I was heart broken and completely alone. I broke things off, but kept in touch so that I can get my money back. Over a period of about 2 years he returned about 60k. Now he is not responding to my messages and I don’t think he has any intentions of giving my money back. I know it’s been a long time now, but I really am struggling with money. I have bank transaction details and chats on the original device as proof. Can I do anything legally to get it back? Also, I have shifted to a new city. Will that be an issue? -

March 27, 2025 at 4:25 amEven if he is the son of a mayor it doesnβt matter you have legal options1) get a lawyer who will draft a legal notice and arrange it to be sent to him. Attach all copy of proof, amount etc including the one you received
2) if he still refuses file an FIR under section 316 of BNS . This will wake him up suddenly .
3) under order 37 of Crpc file a suit of recovery and attach all past and present proof.
Try to create as much pressure as you can . Also now days legal notices can be sent via WhatsApp
Good luck

March 27, 2025 at 4:32 amPlease remember: never give money to non-permanent and distrustful people in your life or always loan it against some valuable item. I would never loan any sort of money to my partner or even a friend. It always weirded me out that a person knows 10 people before me that were in his/her life years before me yet the first person they ask for money from is me. It’s not a sign of trust in your capabilities or in the relationship. It’s a sign that the person is just looking for a new trap.-

March 27, 2025 at 6:37 amYou’re right. Thats a human tendency to err in judging a close person.
Imagine being in the center of a flooded town, desperately waiting for help. A boat comes to you and the boatman tells you that you shouldn’t have come to this town at this time of year and leaves.
OP will probably feel the same way for any relationship advice in a similar way. -

Legally it would be quite challenging for you to get back your money.
Try speaking to his dad about it. You probably get some amount back.
You can take it as a bad investment too. You invested, you lost. We all do.

March 27, 2025 at 5:17 amI am not sure if it is a good idea, but you can try reaching out to his father with all the proofs. Most lawyers do very well financially, so this amount should not be a big deal for him. If he ignores you or doesn’t take you seriously, then lawyer up and send a legal notice. You have done nothing wrong, there is no reason for you to be scared of, just because he is a lawyer’s son. Good luck!-
BBrightsumit3555

March 27, 2025 at 5:47 amI did think of this. His father won’t listen to me and will support his son. It will become even more difficult for me because it’s just me and my mom. I don’t want any harm coming my mom’s way.

March 27, 2025 at 5:17 amIf you don’t have financial burden over this amount then I suggest you can then just let it go. Just look it as daan dediya. But if you are in dire need of money then you may have a case because you have all proofs.-
BBrightsumit3555
OP
March 27, 2025 at 5:49 amI really want to do this, but I’m the sole earner of my family. It’s just me and my mom. My dad passed when I was 3. I started working when I was 18, and in a way that money was my life’s savings. I know I made a terrible mistake trusting him.-

March 27, 2025 at 5:45 amDo you know this guys parents, where they live etc. I would suggest you to go to his house and demand repayment. Demand a repayment right on the spot via check/online transfer and don’t leave until you get it. If they refused then create a scene right then and there so they get embarrassed among their neighbours. There is nothing Indian parents won’t do to avoid some public shaming. If you feel it will be difficult to do it alone then take a friend, preferably a girl along with you. I can guarantee you will get your money back.-

March 27, 2025 at 8:00 amYou do understand that we live in India not in US right. Legal cases can drag on forever. This is specially challenging since the boy’s father is a lawyer so they will know about all the loopholes to drag this case forever. And OP will have to bear all the litigation expenses along with the original dues, let alone the stress and hassle ligation will cost.

March 27, 2025 at 7:08 amHello. Practicing advocate here. The fact that he returned some money amounts to agreeing there was a loan and you have all right to claim for money recovery. However the limitation is 3 years from the cause of action(which is re-calculated from the day some money is paid back) so keep that in mind.-

March 31, 2025 at 8:31 amHe already is suffering. His sister had 3 surgeries, there’s a court case regarding property between his father and his aunt, he had two accidents, and even now his leg is broken. He too had two surgeries. This is why it took me so long to finally ask for help on the internet. Initially I felt sorry too, but now it’s too much to take.
