I’m seeking advice for a friend (not on Reddit) from a tier 3 city.
He initially acquired his passport by editing his date of birth on his original 10th-grade marksheet. His actual DOB is 10-07-1993, but he changed it to 02-08-1989. He did this because he had just gotten a job with an MNC and needed to travel abroad within a month, but all his other documents (PAN, Aadhaar, birth certificate) reflected the incorrect DOB. He submitted the edited marksheet (Only BW print) with the passport application and received his passport without issues.
He has since traveled internationally twice on that passport. Recently, someone advised him to correct the DOB on his passport to avoid future complications, as changes cannot be made after five years. He successfully updated his DOB on all his other documents and applied for a passport renewal with a DOB change request.
The passport office accepted his request, took his biometrics, and later issued a notice stating it was a DOB change case, requiring him to visit the Regional Passport Office (RPO) with original documents. Edit:- wanted to update that the passport officer in the Regional Passport office who was handling the DOB Change file was the same officer who handled my friends File 1st time in tier 3 city where he presented an edited 10th marksheet.

He got transferred to tier 3 city to the regional passport office & he also told my friend that ” it’s impossible that he approved the file earlier without any checks”.
