April 22, 2025 at 9:43 amHey everyone,I’m a freelance content writer based in India, and I’m in a really stressful situation right now. A few days ago, I found out that my bank account (Punjab National Bank) has been frozen without any prior notice. When I contacted the bank, they told me it was due to a cyber misuse complaint and that my account has been flagged by the head office.
I went to the cyber crime department, and they informed me that I’m in the “6th layer” of a fraud transaction chain. Apparently, someone who committed fraud transferred money that eventually ended up in my account β βΉ10,000 to be exact. I had received this amount as payment for freelance work, and I had no idea it was linked to anything shady.
The problem is: my account holds over βΉ1 lakh, and itβs been fully frozen. I rely on that money for rent, bills, and daily expenses. Iβve already written a formal complaint and offered to provide proof of work, ID, communication history β anything to show Iβm not involved.
Has anyone else gone through something like this?
Can the bank freeze the entire amount for a βΉ10,000 issue?
How long does this kind of investigation usually take?
Will I get my money back?
Is being in the 6th layer considered βsafeβ from legal action?
Any advice, experience, or tips would really help. Iβm fully cooperating, but feeling very anxious. Thanks in advance!

April 22, 2025 at 9:56 amI think it has become common practise to freeze bank account and get bribes from the account owners to unfreeze. My suggestion would be don’t park all your hard earned money into 1 savings account as I have seen people who have above 50K are being easily targeted. Sometimes I think they purposely do block accounts with the settings in banks/police/cyber crime-

April 25, 2025 at 2:53 pmHi ! Thank you for suggestions πThe issue has been resolved. The bank has unfrozen my account, except for the disputed amount. I went to my bank branch and collected a copy of the complaint.
Initially, they were not willing to provide it, but I insisted by mentioning the Madras High Court judgment. I also submitted two letters, one requesting complaint details and another requesting the unfreezing of my account. Along with these letters, I attached an article from The Hindu that supported my case.
I found out the email IDs from which the complaint had been registered and sent emails to those addresses, requesting the unfreezing of my account. I also attached a copy of the High Court judgment in those emails. Within 24 hours, my issue was resolved.

April 22, 2025 at 10:53 amThere have been several recent court rulings in this regard. Banks and cyber officials can only put a hold on the disputed amount and cannot freeze the entire account. If you take this to court, the court will issue a ruling in your favor. In the meantime, take these legal judgments to the bank and the cyber office. Many of the people working in these departments are unaware of these rulings or they are intentionally running afoul of the rulings.
