I’m 23f , got married 1.5 years ago. The plan was for me to join my husband where he works, but he is now refusing to take me there. I’ve been living at my parents house for almost a year. He is not providing any financial support and has been emotionally and financially abusive.

My parents and in-laws live in different cities. Even when I need to travel to my in-laws’ place, my father has to book the tickets. My husband even refused to recharge my mobile plan.3 of my religious festivals have passed, and he never bought me any dresses for those occasions.

He and his parents often make comments like “the bride’s parents should continue taking care of everything even after marriage,” even for small expenses.

My visa is about to expire, but he wouldn’t book my tickets over a minor dispute. But he took the utensils and household appliances beforehand with him which were purchased by my parents .He has ghosted me for several months. My parents spent a lot on the wedding, trusting in his supposed financial stability, but it feels like I married a completely different person. He is extremely frugal.

When he was leaving India for work, I asked him for money to cover my expenses, but he turned it into a major issue. His whole family then questioned why I needed money at all. After our engagement, he hacked into my mobile phone and went through my chats and messages.

I can’t continue in this marriage any longer. I’m considering getting a divorce. What legal charges can be pressed against him?

Well I can’t say for charges but you have a advantage you should file the case when he is india in your mahila thana if he will not appear their they can issue no fly notice due to which he will not be able to board out of India and you can have a settlement with him and file for divorce if you file the case when he is in foreign it’s not going to do any good as police cant force him to come here i would not like to tell anything about what charges to fill before having complete information but this is a piece of advice for you

Have you talked to him about divorce? Is he ready to give it ? You can go for mutual.

                        I didn’t. He’d probably fight against it.

That would be protract the process. Get in touch with a lawyer. You will need to establish grounds for divorce.
