February 8, 2025 at 12:26 amHi,
32(M) living abroad in the USA recently got engaged to a girl in Ind and started her visa process on basis of court marriage in a month. We planned on officiating the marriage in the month of April but now we both are not interested in going forward due to various reasons. Most probably would be a mutually consented divorce. How to proceed further with this? Are there any options? And since this was only a month ago can the marriage be annulled?
Definitely going to contact a lawyer but need to understand a path forward. -

February 8, 2025 at 1:21 amHow are your surviving in US with your language skill.1. Has the religious marriage happened?
2. Has court marriage happened? That is actually gone to the marriage registrar and signed in presence of witnesses and gotten your marriage certificate?-

Long story short. We got court marriage done and were also planning on getting a religious marriage done in April, but for different reasons we wish to not proceed further mutually. What are the options and how long does that take?-

February 8, 2025 at 1:30 amWhatever you do, get a lawyer and do it properly. The last thing you want is for this to be some kind of a scam and you get stuck.-

February 8, 2025 at 2:01 amSorry. Are you all married or not. You said “basis of court marriage in a month”. So marriage has not taken place. If it’s just engagement you don’t need to do anything. If you have indeed registered your marriage then you need to file for a divorce on mutual consent. Process will take about a year. Get a lawyer for this.

February 8, 2025 at 2:16 amApologies! I wrote all of that in the spur of the moment and did not proofread it before posting. We got a court marriage done so we are officially married. We also wanted to get a religious ceremony done for family and friends, but no longer wish to proceed. In this case what options do we have? Can the marriage be nullified or will we have to apply for a divorce?-

February 8, 2025 at 4:45 amYes. If you both do not want to go ahead with this you will have to file for divorce by mutual consent. Doesn’t matter if the religious ceremony did not happen. The fact that your marriage is registered is enough. Contact a lawyer and file for the proceedings.

February 8, 2025 at 2:31 amYes, she can screw you with dowry, domestic violence or unnatural sex false cases if she wants. And yes, you’ll have to pay settlement money. Rest depends on her but in such cases the lawyer from the girl’s side will ensure that you get screwed financially because they also get a cut.
