ASeeking Advice: How to Prepare for First Lawyer Consultation for a Complicated Case
1. What information should one prepare to explain my case clearly? Are there any templates or formats that make it easier for the lawyer to understand the situation?
2. What personal details should one share or avoid sharing upfront? I want to protect my privacy while still giving enough information for effective advice.
3. How can we assess if the lawyer is competent and the right fit for my case? Are there key questions I should ask or red flags I should watch out for? Whether they are ethical or not?

H1. If your case is complicated, then prepare a note for yourself so that you can explain each and every detail of the case without missing out points. Carry a copy of all the relevant documents and evidence.
2. Make sure that your advocate knows all the facts and let him decide what is relevant and what is not. From personal experience, many clients skip important details/documents which they believe to be minor, but many times these minor things have huge legal impact and can change the entire direction of the case.
3. Do not hide things which may go against you. If the advocate is informed beforehand what can go against him then he has a chance to be prepared. But if you don’t inform him, mid-way through your case the other side will bring it up and your advocate will get caught off guard.
4. Regarding privacy, share only the information relevant to the case.
