Need advice regarding bike accident FIR and owner appearance

I am the registered owner of a bike, but my father was riding it when an accident happened. Both parties have filed FIRs. The police are now asking me to personally come to the police station and sign a written statement confirming that I am the owner and that my father was riding the bike at the time of the accident.

The issue is that I live in another city, while my father lives in the city where the accident happened.

The police are also saying that I may need to appear in court for the same statement.

My questions:

Is it mandatory for the registered owner to personally appear at the police station in such cases?

Will I need to attend every court hearing, or only once for verification?

Can a lawyer request exemption from personal appearance since I live in another city?

If my father had a valid driving licence and bike was older so insurance was inactive, what is usually the owner’s legal responsibility in such cases?

this sounds like the police are mainly trying to formally connect the vehicle ownership with who was actually riding at the time rather than treating you as the main accused directly the part that complicates things a bit is the inactive insurance because once that enters the picture owners naturally start worrying about personal liability and repeated appearances have they officially named you anywhere in the fir itself yet or are they currently only asking for a verification style statement about ownership and your father riding the bike

Right now, they only want me to be present to write a letter stating that I am the owner of the bike and that my father was riding it at the time of the incident. According to the police, I will need to provide the same statement in court as well.
