May 21, 2026 at 10:44 amI took a small instant loan from an app called Baumenn Loan App and already made the payment, but it is still showing as pending in their system. Before and after payment, recovery agents were continuously contacting me on WhatsApp using foreign numbers and threatening/intimidating behavior. They even used inappropriate profile pictures and kept pressuring me despite me informing them that payment was already made. Since yesterday they stopped contacting me, but Iβm still anxious they may misuse my data or contact my family/friends.
I have saved screenshots, payment proof, and prepared a cyber complaint.
Has anyone dealt with similar loan app harassment in India?
Did the harassment stop after payment got updated?
What should I do next to protect myself and my contacts?
Iβm extremely stressed and would appreciate genuine advice.

May 21, 2026 at 10:48 amSee if they update the payment. If not, you can file a NC with police, listing the numbers you keep getting these threats from, for your safety and records. That will keep you safe in case they try to do anything in future. Though since you have made the payments, I suspect once it is updated in their system, this will automatically stop.-

May 21, 2026 at 10:53 amThanks. The payment amount was already deducted from my Paytm account, but on the loan app side it is still showing as pending. I already contacted Paytm support and they said it may take 3-5 days to update.-

May 21, 2026 at 10:55 amThen wait for it to update, and in case someone calls you, politely tell them you have made the payment. If they get rude or threatening tell them to F*&k off!!! They will get the hint and leave you alone.-

May 21, 2026 at 10:57 amπthe problem is they were not just asking for payment. They were also threatening me with edited/morphed pictures and saying they would contact people from my contact list. That’s what scared me the most. I’ve already paid, but since the payment still shows pending, I’m worried they may continue the harassment until it updates.-

May 21, 2026 at 11:06 amIf they call you again, as I said, file a simple police complaint. Keep record of when they called and how they called and submit them.

However, with illegal apps like this, the app status rarely updates to “paid.” They intentionally keep the system status as “pending” or “overdue” as an excuse to extort more money. You have already taken the absolute right first steps by saving the screenshots, keeping the payment proofs, and preparing a cyber complaint.β¦and local police. formal complaint to report a serious incident of digital extortion, harassment, and criminal intimidation by individuals operating through a mobile application named “Baumenn Loan App”.
Subject: Complaint against illegal extortion, harassment, intimidation, and data misuse by operators of ‘Baumenn Loan Appβ¦. your online application on the National Cyber Crime Portal

May 21, 2026 at 11:08 amYou should immediately file complaints with the RBI Sachet Portal, National Cyber Crime Portal, and your local police station, while preserving every screenshot, payment receipt, call log, and WhatsApp message as evidence. Many illegal instant loan apps continue harassment even after payment because recovery agents operate outside lawful RBI recovery guidelines. Don’t share OTPs or additional payments, revoke app permissions from your phone, inform close contacts in advance in case they attempt misuse, and send the company a formal written email demanding closure of the loan account and deletion of your personal data. If harassment or defamation continues, you may also pursue criminal and legal action for intimidation, extortion, and privacy violations.-

May 21, 2026 at 11:12 amThanks. I already emailed the Cyber Crime portal because the website was not letting me register/submit properly, probably due to server issues. Iβve saved screenshots, payment proof, call logs, and WhatsApp chats as evidence. Iβm also waiting for the Paytm payment to update since the amount was already deducted from my account
