Need Advice related to an accident that occurred 12 years ago

While I was in college (12 years back), we (batch of around 20-25 person) were going on a casual unofficial college trip in a bus.
Bus met with an accident and there were casualties (4 on spot , 3 later).
After all these years, a policeman visited my house ( I stay the nearest to the location where the accident happened) and asked my parents to call me just the next day to appear as a witness. ( state vs other party)
I remember nothing other than what was on the newspaper.
My parents told him that He (I) stay out station and can’t reach within a day.
Now policeman has been calling my parents to ask me to appear after 3 days else a warrant will be issued.
Can i decline appearing in the court?
Will there be any legal action?

It’s sad that two identical things happened on similar time period.. Even in that kerala accident, 7 dead n ppl went without informing college

Policemen asked you to appear before court or police station? 

Why the officer hasn’t taken your phone number yet?

Asked to appear before the court. My parents didn’t give them my number until yesterday.

If you received the copy of summon then do appear. Ask for FIR details, case number etc.
