Are E-Commerce Platforms Violating Consumer Rights by Charging Packaging Fees?
I’ve noticed that many e-commerce platforms are adding a “packaging fee” to orders. But isn’t this against consumer protection rulings? Courts have ruled that retailers can’t charge for plastic, paper, box or cloth carry bags if they have the brand logo. Even plastic tapes and wraps often have branding on them.
So how are these platforms justifying these extra fees? Is this legally allowed, or could it be challenged like the carry bag charges in physical stores? Would love to hear thoughts from legal experts or anyone who’s looked into this!
