Rental agreement is not needed to hand over the house as long as both parties act as per the agreement….but how do you hand over the house with locked almirah assuming some valuables inside.. answer is just break open

What legality you are talking about? The husband has rented the building…he has to tell it to the landlord that he is breaking open and bear the expenses of fixing it back…wife has no role to play here

This is what happens if you overthink.. make mountain out of a mole…it is a non issue…you are not stealing from her house….you are the owner of the almirah as the tenant..you have all the right to take things out while vacating

Record yourself breaking it open, document all the items in the almirah present after breaking, take all your stuff out, leave hers behind. Put a new lock. Recording ends.

Purpose? To ensure that she doesn’t claim you stole item X when X was not there in the almirah to begin with.

Dude wait for few months before you vacate. Send her registered post to come back. After three to four times consult an advocate and proceed accordingly. She will later say you threw her out and vacated. That’s exactly what my wife did.

Rent agreement has 2 copies. The landlord would have the 2nd one. Ask him to share scanned copy with you.

Arree…..Take a camera, break the lock , prepare a list of items found, after it is done restore the lock for your landlord.

Inform your wife in advance and request her to be present, keep that proof also. If she does not come you have a solid ground. If she comes but creates a fuss , your landlord and others in neighbourhood are Witness.
