May 10, 2026 at 3:38 amMy parents agreed to buy a piece of land in Uttar Pradesh for βΉ8 lakhs through a common contact/source. We paid βΉ4 lakhs as advance and also have a written receipt for the payment.Later, the seller told us that the land could no longer be sold to us and instead tried to push us into buying another plot worth βΉ12 lakhs. Since it was over our budget, we clearly refused and asked for our advance money back. Our source through which we got the land is also not responding to us as it is obvious that he has taken commission from the dealer
He initially agreed to return the βΉ4 lakhs, but it has now been over 6 months and he still hasnβt returned the money. Every time we ask, he says he doesnβt have the money and has now started talking rudely to my parents as well.
We have proof of payment and the receipt. What legal options do we have in this situation? Can we file a police complaint or take civil/legal action to recover the money?

May 10, 2026 at 4:45 amRead what’s written in contract. Generally, it is written that he is either liable to either sell you the land or return double the advance.
