        Hi everyone,

We are currently tenants in an independent house. The landlord, who lives abroad, contacted us via WhatsApp and offered the house for rent to a working professional family. We met all the criteria he set, visited the house, liked it, and agreed to the rent without negotiating—even though he was firm on the price.

From the beginning, he insisted on paying rent by the 5th of every month and mentioned that his relative would help with repairs. However, in reality, we’ve had to handle all repairs ourselves, including coordinating technicians, and he would only reimburse after lengthy discussions and requests for proof (photos, bills, etc.). The house is around 12 years old, so maintenance issues are not uncommon.

Now, unexpectedly, we found out through real estate agents that the landlord is planning to sell the house. He did not inform us directly—only confirmed it after we confronted him. He initially said he would notify us in advance and limit showings to weekends. But in practice, agents and buyers have been visiting the property frequently, sometimes without notice, even when only my mother is home. Some visitors have even taken videos of the interior while we are living here, which feels like a serious breach of privacy and security.

We’re continuing to pay the rent on time, despite the inconvenience, but we’re starting to feel very uncomfortable. The landlord did not mention any plans to sell when we moved in, and there’s been no formal communication about how this process would affect our tenancy.

        I’m looking for advice on:

        1. Whether a landlord is allowed to show a rented property to potential buyers without the tenant’s consent or proper notice.
        2. What rights we have as tenants to protect our privacy and safety.
        3. What legal options we can explore if this continues.

Would appreciate guidance or if anyone has been through something similar.

        Thanks in advance.

No he can’t. Write to him clearly and tell him to back off.

Just say no to brokers agent or visitors without prior notice or if they still come, just tell the sellers indirectly how this is a bad house to buy. You do this 2 or 3 times then either they will notify you before coming or you will have a heated argument with your landlord. Anyway if he is willing to sell you should also start looking for something. However these houses doesn’t sell that easily so you have enough time
