        ***

I’m considering filing a **Non-Cognizable Report (NCR)** as a preventive measure against my ex, who has been contacting my family despite being blocked. I don’t want to escalate things into a legal case right now, but I want an official record in case he takes any action against me in the future.

        Some concerns I have:
        1. Will he be informed if I file an NCR? Will that have any repercussions in his background check ?
        2. Can this help me if he tries to defame me or take legal action against me later?
        3. Can I still take action in the future, even if he gets married?

For context, he has previously harassed me, manipulated situations, and now seems to be trying to instill fear. He also holds material that could be used to defame me. I want to ensure I’m legally protected without escalating unnecessarily.

Would appreciate any legal insights on how to proceed smartly. Thanks in advance!

*Will he be informed? Will it affect his background check?*

No, unless the police decide to call him for inquiry (which is rare in NCR cases).

It won’t impact background checks since it’s not a criminal charge—only serious cases appear in police verification.

*Can this protect you from defamation or legal action later?*

Yes, an NCR acts as preemptive documentation, proving a history of harassment.

If he defames you, you can escalate with a cybercrime complaint (IT Act & IPC 499/500).

*Can you take action later, even if he gets married?*

Yes, an NCR doesn’t limit future legal action. You can still file an FIR if harassment continues.

If the threat persists, consider a restraining order (Section 144 CrPC or Civil Injunction).

          Stay safe and document everything.

Thank you so much. Is there a way that I can know if he has filed a NCR against me?

NCR are not publicly accessible like FIRs. You can submit an RTI to the police department requesting information on any report filed in your name.
