EMy 21-year-old friend is facing physical and emotional abuse by her father. He beats and tortures her regularly. She is scared and financially dependent on him, so leaving immediately is difficult.
I want to know what legal options she has. Can she file an FIR or NC against him? Can she get protection under the Domestic Violence Act? Are there government shelters she can approach for immediate safety?
Any urgent advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

DThat is very disturbing to know. Does she have a mother to protect her? A police complaint will be helpful but if she is scared and cannot leave immediately, I really hope she finds the courage to take a coercive step against him. There might be multiple ways to protect the little girl but if she has to live with him, she will have to find some grit to fight back as the abusive father may try to seek revenge in multiple ways. He may pull back on supporting her financially. Not saying she should take the abuse at any cost. The father deserves the worst punishment. She can surely file a police complaint against the father and also a domestic violence complaint against him as she falls within the ambit of ‘aggrieved person’ under the Act.

NTell her to focus on studies get a job and get out of the house ASAP. She is 21 so she must be close to finishing her undergraduate.
NGOs are sometimes very shady and can do more harm than good.
