April 11, 2025 at 1:23 pmHi everyone,
I’m posting on behalf of a close friend (F20) who is in a really distressing situation and urgently needs guidance. She was in a toxic relationship with a guy (M23). While her family is somewhat strict due to societal pressure, his family is more open and free. Initially, they spent a lot of time together and went on a 4-day trip to Shillong (she paid most of the expenses). During the trip and otherwise, he often pressured her into physical intimacy even when she wasn’t comfortable.
Things worsened over time. One of her relatives saw some social media posts and told her family, which led to her being scolded badly. The guy dismissed her struggles and mental breakdowns saying things like “mai yeh sab pehle bhi kar chuka, natak mat karo.”
She caught him cheating (I witnessed this myself), yet she forgave him. He would manipulate her with comments like “log to sex karne ke baad bhi wapas aa jaate hain, tum kyun nahi?” After the breakup, he started talking to multiple girls just to get her attention.
Recently, a fake Instagram account has surfaced using her name, posting private pictures that were only shared between her and her ex. These pictures were never shared with anyone else, and it’s obvious who’s behind it. When confronted, the guy threatened her saying that if she doesn’t put that account down , “she will face consequences.” (Peak Gaslighting)
She’s extremely depressed, has already attempted suicide once, and also went through an abortion after getting pregnant by him.
What legal actions can she take in this case? Can she report the leaking of private photos and blackmail threats? What’s the best way to protect her from further mental and emotional harm?
Please guide us with the right steps. She’s scared but willing to take action now.

April 11, 2025 at 1:55 pmComplain immediately to Cyber cell, no other option will help. May be keep the girls parents informed, they might get angry but they should back the girl to get out of this traumatic situation. Finally do not take intimate/nude pics even if you are married. You never know what will happen if the phone is lost or broken and is given for repair even if you live with the spouse forever.

April 11, 2025 at 3:03 pm1. File a complaint here – https://cybercrime.gov.in/webform/FAQ.aspx
2. Take a copy of it & reach nearest police station & file an FIR (this allows them to remove stuff online. consequences for the guy depends on proving his intent. If he says someone hacked his phone then his consequences won’t be as severe.
3. Give it 2 weeks, it’ll be gone. But unless you don’t take action against the guy or scare him enough, you never know if he’d post it again. At the end, once something is on the internet, it’s on the internet – best cyber crime can do is make sure it’s not easily accessible by removing it from obvious places.Simpler things –
1. Mass report that account & bring it down.
2. Talk to his parents about his actions along with the warning for legal actions. Simply say “idc if you did it or not, only you had it & now it’s out there, so I’m filing an FIR with what I know. once FIR is registered, it’ll be out of my hands – both of our phones & digital history of last 3 years will be investigated to trace the source of the leak”
3. Reach out to insta accounts who help with taking down insta accounts by mass reporting it – this would be a fast way but not the best way.-
