Yesterday, a classmate from school (whom I last spoke to in 2016) messaged me on Instagram, asking if I was the one who had been talking to her and claiming to have her picture. For a moment, I was shocked, as I hadnโ€™t spoken to her in nearly 10 years.

I told her that we hadnโ€™t been in touch since school and that I wasnโ€™t sure what she meant. She then explained that a person using my name had texted her in 2018, sending cheap and vulgar messages. The impersonator also had his picture, and even hacked her facebook ID. All of this had happened back in 2018.

She told me that the harassment deeply affected her mental health, leading to hallucinations and symptoms of schizophrenia. She blamed the impersonator for her condition. I suggested that she should have confirmed my identity with any of our classmates before responding to the messages. She then mentioned that she wished she had ended her life back then or filed a police complaint. I told her she should have taken legal action at the time.

Although I was deeply empathetic toward her situation, the entire incident made me feel uneasy. Whatโ€™s troubling me now is the thought of who else the imposter might have contacted using my name.

More importantly, I am concerned about how to legally protect myself from any potential complications. Given how women-friendly the laws in India are, I want to ensure I am safeguarded from being wrongfully implicated. What steps can I take to avoid getting entangled in this mess?

You sure this isn’t some kind of trap? Also, schizophrenia might not be induced due to bad event but bad event can be induced due to schizophrenia. Beware.

Schizphrenia is induced due to traumatic events. Don’t make comments about a subject you don’t know.

I think you misunderstood the point. Please re-read the comment I’ve not said what you’re implying.
