HWe used to live in a colony previously and there we had these neighbours. They were like any common neighbours. We moved out from that place nearly 3 years ago. Now since 4-5 days loan agents are calling us saying these neighbours gave our number as a reference for a loan they took. When i talked more to the loan agent they specifically mentioned our old house number and said that these neighbours of ours took the loan and now not lifting calls. Any action can i take to put an end to this . Please help !

Dwhat are they claiming? are they asking you the whereabouts of the neighbours? or are they saying that you are a guarantor of some sorts.

BI am always surprised by stupidity of people in comments here telling OP to get lawyer.
OP, those recovery agents are lying. Whenever someone defaults loan in loan apps (most of loan apps available on playstore and Apple store are illegal). They call everyone in contact list and lie them that loan taker has given their number as guaranteer.
Tell agents to FO.

NI got only one such Call till date, where I informed do they know to whom they contacting? They said my name. I asked them to show my consent on any form of loan then We can have a call. Just because someone know my name and number that doesn’t mean they can use it anywhere and you guys keep calling me.
This was in very cold tone, serious and calmly. Never got any Call after that

BTell them the bloody neighbour took a loan from me as well.. plz help me recover money..I will give u 10%.
Waste their time in negotiations.Next time they call, ask them for updates on your money recovery, irrespective of if they agreed or not.

KIts not just you, quite a few people in his contact would be receiving calls 📞. When people take loans from this “Loan Apps” ( which are mostly Chinese funded or managed) they ask to install an app via apk, what it does is that it copies all the contacts from the users phone. When user is unable to pay, they start calling all the contacts in their phone and start to harass them “ by saying the BS like they have listed your name as a guaranteer etc so that you panic call the user and put a pressure on them to pay back the loans, in the extreme cases they blackmail people (users, specially if she is a woman and have taken the loan) to share the morphed pictures to all their contact ( just google it, there is a full BBC documentary about it that how many people have actually committed sui**de” due to harassment from this loan sharks.
Legally you can’t do sh*t,because it originates from outside India, the people/collection agency you are getting called from are “outsourced”, and they have 1000 cases filed on them everyday and nothing happens, so forget about it.
What you can do? Do not engage and as soon as they call, disconnect it, and block their number.
