March 18, 2025 at 10:50 amMy owner and I had signed rental agreement which says that the tenant shall pay one month rent or painting and cleaning charges when vacating the house. The owner told that he will take care of cleaning and painting and he shared the invoice as well. This charge is almost 10k more than my rent. Can I instead ask owner to only deduct one month rent rather than the painting and cleaning charges? Is this legal to bear charges of whole painting and cleaning process? -

March 18, 2025 at 10:58 amSince the rental agreement clearly states that you only need to pay one months rent, that’s all you need to pay. He cannot charge you anything more. The problem might be that he’ll probably try to deduct it from the deposit.-

March 18, 2025 at 11:43 amThe rental agreement states one month rent or painting and cleaning charges. It doesn’t have a clause like (whichever is lesser/higher). He can point this out and deduct the amount, right?

March 19, 2025 at 8:10 amYou should do the cleaning and painting yourself before you vacate the premise.this is common courtesy. He will charge you based on the quotation. It’s not the owner’s fault if the painting and cleaning cost exceeds more than a month rent cost.
