So I’m currently staying at an OYO hotel in Gurgaon (still here as of April 27th). I booked the stay for two male guests from May 25th to April 1st The total amount I paid was ₹12,560.

Out of curiosity, I checked the same booking on April 25th and saw that the current price for the same dates and same guest count was ₹8,457, inclusive of all taxes. I had already paid earlier and couldn’t cancel, so I went ahead with my original booking.

While staying here, I unfortunately lost the key card. I informed the hotel staff and they charged me ₹1,000 for a replacement. When I asked for a receipt, they refused to give me one. I contacted OYO customer care, but they just told me it’s the hotel’s policy and they couldn’t help. There was no mention anywhere of how much a lost key card costs or any written policy shown to me.

        So my questions:
        1. Was it legal for them to charge ₹1,000 for a key card without giving me a receipt?
        2. Is there any consumer law that covers price differences or unfair pricing practices in cases like this?
        3. Can I take any action against the hotel or OYO for this overcharging or lack of transparency?

Any legal insight or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi. I’m a Delhi based lawyer. Any legal action that you will take will monetarily far exceed the INR 1000/- you unhappily paid for the new key. Plus your time and energy. If you’re ready for that, then you surely must. Else just let it go, or write to their higher management asking them to resolve your grievance/justify your query.

You’re right. I was just thinking of doing something to make sure this doesn’t happen to others. I’ve already paid, so I know I won’t get my money back, but I still wanted to highlight the issue ive written to the oyo regarding this . Thanks a lot for your advice!
