February 4, 2025 at 2:38 pmHey im an 18 year old studying in a city 8 hours away from home, My parents are seperated and they “split” paying for my needs when i joined college, but after paying the first semester fees and PG rent till a few months ago they just stopped sending me money for food or upcoming fees and other college expneses. I have no idea what to do anymore, i posted my issues on another sub and they told me to ask for legal advice here. I cant even drop out and go home without paying the second semester fees. Is there anything i can do legally? Im struggling to survive here with no food or moneyUPDATE 2: Nothing new about my parents but i got enough resources and help from communities to get going. Multiple recruiters has reached out to me about jobs, which im going forward with. I have deleted posts from the other subreddit as my identity got pointed out and more details are on my profile.

February 4, 2025 at 2:44 pmYour achaan is legally obligated to maintain you, ideally is both parents but legally your achaan, I don’t know how you might get some legal help but if you do they’ll be compelled, now the only caveat is if they’re wealthy enough for you to continue in your current college or not.-

February 4, 2025 at 2:46 pmI don’t think much can be done if your parents refused, especially now you are 18 after all.But don’t give up hope contact your college, tell your situation they might do something.
Did you talk with your parents, if not do it. Also don’t forget if there is ancestral property you have share.

February 4, 2025 at 2:56 pmDoes bank give loan? Are there some government schemes? Can you approach a lawyer? Can you make your post public and get some media support so someone might help you? Can you approach dean of your college and ask for his suggestions? Try everything and by hook or crook complete your course and get a job . Thats your golden ticket for your future.-

February 4, 2025 at 4:08 pmIf your college is cheap, apply at all banks, – pnb, icici, hdfc, sbi, bob etc. study hard and see if you can do any part time job. Your parents are not prioritising your well being at this point. I believe your mother doesn’t earn enough and your dad is an AH, but neither of them are justified to not send money for food also. Take care OP. Life is going to be teaching you alot! Wish you storm through this. -

February 4, 2025 at 7:24 pmYou can get an education loan upto 7.5 Lakhs without any collateral and upto 4 Lakhs without any guarantor. This is the case for SBI. Higher if it’s a private bank. If it’s an engineering degree or a popular degree you’ll get the education loan in any private bank.Check out your nearby banks and see how much you qualify for. You’ll need to get a letter from the college about the total fees from the 2nd year onwards including any laptop or study material purchase. If you opt for hostel, that can be included too. Just have that fees letter from college, tell them you need it for educational loan and they’ll know what to produce.
Banks are legally obligated to give out educational loans. They try not to but they have to. Talk to the head of the bank if they make you run around. That’s how I got my loan in SBI.

February 4, 2025 at 8:00 pmYou can do it online or offline. The initial process is to get the application online. Then take a print out of the application and go to an SPB branch of SBI if there’s one in your city. -

February 4, 2025 at 3:22 pmWho suggested you to take legal action? Are you going to get them in jail if they don’t pay? Why do not you try to ask them money to help you out? You will find people calling you a scammer.Just ask them clearly. If they want to pay or not. If not then find a way to earn money. That’s the life. And if you think world is kind. Then do the crowdfunding. The people who are saying to take legal action can pay you some amount.

According to me , the first thing you should do is tell about these to some close relative . Then talk to some close and good teacher. Talk with parents again . If still nothing , temporarily take money from friends for food for this month . Then see afterwards -

February 5, 2025 at 1:58 amnot legal but life advise: call your close relatives and explain the situation to them how you have been abandoned. Shame your parents in front of everyone making them run to you to save their own pride. Really shameful for the parents to do this. -
