May 9, 2026 at 6:59 pmSorry if this post is a bit long or confusing, I’m just really stressed and overthinking this whole passport process and don’t want to make a mistake 😅I’m originally from Nagaland and all my official documents in Aadhaar, bank passbook and voter ID still have my Nagaland address on them. My birthplace is also in Nagaland. The thing is that i’ve actually been living in Guwahati for around 6 years now for studies/life reasons, and currently stay here fulltime. So while filling the passport application, I entered my present and residential address as my Guwahati address and permanent address as Nagaland but now I’m confused about which passport office and police station I should choose. The PSK or RPO office and police station in Guwahati are very close and convenient for me, while the ones in Nagaland are far away and would require travel. But I’m worried that since all my main IDs documents still show Nagaland, applying from Guwahati might create issues or delays during police verification. I can arrange some local proofs like electricity bills since i pay for it but the APDCL smart prepaid bill doesn’t show my name or address, I’m stressing about what else I can show as my address proof here in Guwahati ,if you have any idea about it please let me know. So my questions are:
1. Should I just apply using my Nagaland address for both residential and permanent address since all my IDs match that and go to PSK Nagaland for appointment and police verification?
2. Or can I safely apply from Guwahati since I’ve been living here for years, but I have to give seperate proof of my address in Guwahati.
3. Will police verification become a problem in Guwahati if my Aadhaar still shows Nagaland resulting in delays and more visits?
Will it be easier and faster if i were to just go to Nagaland?
5. Which option is usually faster, efficient and less hassle in practice?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, I just don’t want my application to get delayed or rejected because of a mistake on my side and i don’t have anyone else to consult irl.

May 9, 2026 at 11:45 pmYour Aadhaar address should match the current address you mention in your passport application – in your case, Guwahati. Otherwise, the application might get put on hold. You can still apply from Nagaland if you haven’t made the payment yet, but then you’ll have to travel there few times for document submission, police verification, and collecting the passport.
Applying from your hometown usually means faster verification. In Guwahati, the process may take a bit longer. So it really depends on what matters more to you – if you want the passport quickly, applying from your hometown is better. But if you’d rather avoid multiple trips and prefer convenience, then Guwahati works fine too.
