March 8, 2025 at 7:11 amHi, I am an NRI and as per rules I have provided the documents to my relatives to give when police verification happens. But police asked for more and did not complete the verification.
What legal actions can I takePlease note- I live outside India n can’t visit in person. The police person is being provided with papers as per the rules. My primary address is mentioned as my current foreign address not the relatives address.

March 8, 2025 at 7:35 ampolice verification is, to my knowledge, an address verification – they’re basically supposed to ask around if you’ve lived at the property but as you mentioned you’re an NRI so this will not be the case for you…just email your local Indian mission (embassy/consulate) for help -

March 8, 2025 at 5:34 pmBribe the police. Literally, that’s all the help you’re gonna get. Find a way to bribe them and get shit done instead of being a keyboard warrior and arguing with strangers who are showing you the way out! -

OP
March 9, 2025 at 10:09 amThere is no way to do that. For my first passport I had direct connection with DIG police. Though this time I don’t want to use it. But, from the comments it feels like India is not bad because police is corrupt but it is because people have normalized bribe and connections for even when you are doing nothing wrong.
Also, most people don’t even have any interest in knowing what is right, but just take bribe and connections as first option.

March 8, 2025 at 8:36 amYou have to give them 1-2k bribe to get it done. It’s sad but that’s the only way.-

March 8, 2025 at 8:53 amWhy are you doing police verification in India when you are outside India? Go to the Indian Embassy of the country you live in. If your existing Indian passport does not have any issues, then police verification is not required.-
UUser_af4e9822
OP
March 8, 2025 at 9:04 amIt is required. What I mentioned is exactly the process.

March 8, 2025 at 9:27 amSorry to say that you’re asking for advice without giving very little info. What a layman would understand is a police verification is going on and you’re not in India. If the verification requisitioned expects you to be present in the location address you cannot pass.
If it as an address verification, a supporting document needs to be shown.
The relatives must answer the questions satisfactorily. “his name is Ravi but we call him Raju and people call him Billa” and “this is his father’s house and he sometimes stay here” kind of answers will definitely land him trouble.

March 8, 2025 at 9:56 amThe case is exactly as mentioned above in description. The police verification for NRI is different and doesn’t need NRI to be present. An Indian address could be of relatives can be given for indian address proof.
The answers my relatives gave were satisfactory and correct. As per the law an affidavit is also provided mentioning I don’t live in India for last 9 years and why this address is given.
My ask here is how to take legal actions.

March 10, 2025 at 1:37 amThat’s a famous phrase I used, because I wanted to say if you can’t be a normal human being, you don’t have to be a jerk. But it seems like you’re too frustrated and agitated for anyone to expect that from you.And once again, with your ‘teri kyon jali?’ comment – instead of engaging in any constructive conversation, you’re just resorting to poking and provoking. Seems like that’s all you have to offer.

March 10, 2025 at 9:07 amI called you out because you were being needlessly harsh to OP. Interestingly, you seem quite comfortable dishing out rudeness but remarkably unable to handle a sensible response. And no, I certainly won’t ‘F off.’ However, if your desire is to avoid being called out, I’d suggest you learn the basic decency and respect.
