February 8, 2025 at 10:21 amMe and my roommate left our pg on the 3rd of this month. My roommate had managed to stall 1 month rent as the pg owner wasn’t willing to pay back security. I left my security deposit because I did not wish to fuck my mental peace.
Well, today I received a video from our neighbour which showed that the refrigerator grill, chairs, tv, set top box and switch board was entirely broken.
What should we do in such case?
What legal actions can the owner take on us?
How should we protect ourselves from further consequences?
Ps: the reason we left the pg in the very first place was because of the terrible food we were receiving, even after numerous complaints. Moreover we are not the 1st people to leave this pg because of the living conditions. -

February 8, 2025 at 12:13 pmThe video was not shared by the owner but by my neighbour who became our friend when we were living there.
I wanted to ask another thing that can I recover my security amount because the contract was made on a mutual trust but still he gave such poor quality of food that me and my roommate lost almost 5-6kg of our weight. Also, once water was dripping for the roof and that water dropped into the vessel in which the food was stored.P.s-Till now,the owner hasn’t contacted us,the videos were shared by my neighbour

February 8, 2025 at 12:19 pmHas the Security Amount been adjusted? Have you demanded it in writing from the Landlord?-

February 8, 2025 at 12:36 pmThe thing is, because of the lock in period, we were denied when we asked for our securities as we wanted to leave. We did not ask in writing. I can give you the contract if you’d like to read. My roommate did not pay January rent and left, adjusting his security. I left losing everything. Am I entitled to the security amount? The contract did not have a mention of security forfeiture but it did mention that if the tenant breaches the lock in period and leaves, he is to pay the rent for the remaining period.-

February 8, 2025 at 1:31 pmGot it. You could try requesting the Security in writing. One is bound to follow the terms of the contract, viz. stay during lock in. But you also can’t expect one to live in inhospitable conditions that were neither evident at the beginning of the contract or were a result of negligence of the owner.-

February 8, 2025 at 3:25 pmCan he do anything against me?Because I handed him over the keys on 4th of FEB , wasn’t it his own responsibility to check everything in the room?
Shall I take any action right now because he might file a case against me for damage of property (that is false)-

February 8, 2025 at 3:33 pmYou could send in a message as follows: clearly stating keys handed over on so and so date; all rents duly paid; requesting for security deposit.\

February 8, 2025 at 4:04 pmLet’s not talk about security deposit for a min.
I gave him a notice stating that I am leaving the room on 4th Feb and handed overr the keys to him.But now,it seems like that he wants to file a suit against me on the ground that he didn’t give me my security back,so I damaged his property.Even though I didn’t..what should I do?P.S-IF a Suit/FIR is filed against me would that affect my profile.Like would It be shown in my background check or something like that?

February 8, 2025 at 4:48 pm1. Has he acknowledged handing over of keys? What else was the response?2. Why do you want to avoid talking about Security Deposit?
3. Civil Suit/FIR may show up in Background Verification. But I won’t be too worried about it. Simply by having a case against a person does not imply that person is guilty.

February 8, 2025 at 5:01 pm1.He hasn’t acknowledged but I did receive a msg(in the morning )from him on 4th Feb saying that when will you hand over the keys ..his words were “apne kaha tha aaj keys dedoge(because of the talk we had on 4th)?
I replied by evening around 3-4(because I was in class). And I did what I said.2.I am avoiding talking about security deposit because that isn’t the main concern.I don’t want to get indulged in this BS that’s all.
3.Would it affect me getting a job?

February 8, 2025 at 6:46 pmSo can he do anything against me , merely on the basis of false claim that I damaged his property without any proof of me doing so ? -

February 9, 2025 at 3:51 amIf he goes to court, he will be required to prove that the damage was caused by you. I don’t think it’ll be worth the effort, given the security deposit amount must not be much.
