UI have my Father in law as ex employee of BARC. Due to some personal family issues, he has asked his friend from BARC to track/tap my and two of my friends phone. I do not have any evidence for it but I am pretty sure he is doing it(FIL and my wife has confirmed it multiple times and not willing to stop it). I do not know how to tackle this situation. Is there a way to legally find it out? I am worried as I do not know how the data will be used or stored.
Please help. -
Ethis is unfortunately common thing happening in government sector. the technique to do so is very simple, but a bit difficult to prove until you have an insider. use your own encryption technqiue.

NIt’s called CD-R data. They would know your incoming and outgoing mobile no details. The amount of time spent on each call. Receipt of incoming and outgoing sms. But the contents of sms and audio recording of each call won’t be available.

UDoes Airtel/jio/etc need to co-operate for CD-R data? Are they able to get that data without the telecom’s cooperation?

NEvery law enforcement agency will have a nodal officer who has to approve the request for CD-R for any mobile number. Once that is done, that will be passed on to the nodal officer of the telecom agencies. The telecom companies have to comply. The entire process takes a few hours to a week depending on how soon the data is required. People that know insiders in law enforcement agencies, use this to their advantage and get CD-R data illegally.

MIt’s easily possible to record voice and save sms. There was a DoT project 15years ago and has already been implemented by all telcos. Only caveat is the number to be snooped on must be shared by a competent authority to the telco before hand and the voice data is forked to the destination as well as a remote server. This is as simple as a single command. If the tap is not in place then the only info available is the CDR and the meta data

see if you can add another layer of your encryption. it is like you sending a password-protected file. if they decrypt, they can see that you have sent the file, but cannot open it.

SCalyxOS is worth a try. Especially if the goal is to minimize what info they are acquiring, if at all they are, through Calyx you can use most of the services that one previously did on an Android, will be a hassle at first. A list of supported devices are on their website.
If you think they are able to hear or control your recordings, which is not feasible tbh, unless you’ve installed some APK or gave the phone to them to configure, just network details from the SIM would be going I presume, can still use Calyx to remove other doubts of suspected use.

Bro this is bs at best, maybe scare tactics. BARC does not have such espionage tools, nor will any employee indulge in such activities as this is illegal and that employee runs a risk of disciplinary or police action.

UHe is not doing it himself. He was employed at good rank and BARC already does some tracking/tapping for its employees and they have NDA in place for that. I think for me, he might be putting the tag of family member and not sure how he did for other 2 friends of mine.

UI have recently joined law enforcement and I can assure you that phone tapping is not that easy . A hell of a permissions are required from the concerned authority for tapping someone’s phone .
So it’s highly unlikely that he is tapping your phone.-
UI hope so. But it’s like, BARC already does some kind of tracking of its employee and they sign NDA for that. So my FIL was employed at good rank and that’s how he has some contacts in that department. I am assuming BARC would have such kind of permission already in place.

PPhones and movements of BARC employees are tracked for national security. Phones cannot be put on track and trace so easily. Unless of course he has misused his connection and labelled you as a threat. So, that’s possible but with no proof of anti national activity, it will be cleared off quickly. What did you do to upset him so badly?

I don’t think even the senior scientists will dare. It WILL amount to treason.
Also, IB under MHA does such things on behalf of BARC or DAE. I am sure they are not this stupid to let anyone misuse the system.
