UThis my throwaway account, and this is a true story. There are two parts to the story , first part is about the app which is taking users data, and is a huge privacy concern.
And next is, my career related.
During Covid time, I downloaded an app where I signed in with my gmail. I will not name the app as they can search this post by the keyword and take safeguards to protect themselves. This app was available on playstore and on appstore, I didn’t download it from a third party. On that app, they were using to gather users data, basically they would play porn and girls will be on the mic trying to lure people to sign in. Once signed in, they can use the user data to sell. I found it curious like why would girls do this? I started investigating and since they had my gmail account, they were aware of all activities.
They took revenge on me by sharing my credentials to the company I was working in, I was fired from the company after six months, they didn’t tell me about the account hacking or anything. They didn;t even give a solid reason why they were firing me, it was standard your perfromance is not good so we are letting you go and I was asked to resgin. I didn’t connect the dots that time.
I joined second company, and in that same behaviour repeated, after 5 months I was let go.
In one year, I have switched two companies, this has affected me mentally and now no new good company will take me thinking that my performance is really bad.
– I have proof that the app indeed had my gmail and accessed it, and also my insta, fb and other sites
– I also know this for sure that the both companies had teamed up with this , and accessed my gmail
What can be done?

UHave you reset the gmail account password yet, check for logged in devices and see if there is any unrecognised device, enable 2FA. Use a new gmail account to apply for companies and abandon the old one. Besides what proof do you have that they have called your company?

What is the advantage to the app to get you unemployed?
Wouldn’t your paying capacity go away on you being unemployed in turn a loss for them.Is there any other reason why you are being laid off?

UThey wanted to destroy my life. They have manipulated my mentally alot too making fake ids and then connecting on insta and fb. I don’t get attached easily so I don’t have any grievance for this.
And anyway talking about being unemployed the company should give clear cut reason for firing. And why would company hide that they have accessed my data? If there’s no conspiracy they should be honest about it that yes indeed your account was shared.

UThis seems very far fetched. Why is some random app trying to ruin your life by getting you fired? Why are your companies firing you based on some porn app you used?

UYes sir, this is what I have gathered so far.
And no it was not porn app. It was available on playstore and appstore used by all age group. Sure porn played on that app but it wasn’t a porn app. Think of it as social media app. Surely there’s porn on Facebook, twitter and reddit but would you consider it a porn app?
I am shocked too. But few things are for sure,
– password was hacked
– someone wants to take revenge with me
– companies accessed my gmail

UThere is a data protection act 2023. I am not really sure if your case would be covered in it or not but its good to look into it. Also what kind of data did this “company” use to get you laid off i wonder. I mean you said its not porn then what exactly can be in that data?

UHi, the company never mentioned that they had my account access, and even after asking some folks from both companies they denied it. But I have some witness that has confirmed that indeed the company did access my data. And for lay off, they put the blame on my performance ( which is not true in both companies I did excellent work, yes excellent work. )

SCreate a new Gmail account before applying for a new job.. simple.
Join new company.
Delete your LinkedIn. Cooldown for a year or so.
Create new LinkedIn.Forget old gmail forever.
Or use it to to create problems for the “third party” update new job on LinkedIn every 3 months.
Use old gmail to send FO emails to their customer care email ID.They F-ed you. Can’t F anymore.

First company found out you trying to access it on company time/device. So did the second company.Get a grip on yourself

UNo, I won’t cool down. I have been fired twice in an year. This has affected my career severely and don’t get me started on the mental trauma. I have become a chain smoker.
Yes indeed sometimes I did visit porn under stress, I won’t sugar coat it. But if that was the case the company should be open about it. Visiting porn is not a crime , but accessing someone account and then not telling about them is. Also in both companies there was a lot of unrequired pressure from both companies , and that too only for me? These were some of the reasons that I was able to figure out something indeed is wrong.

SIf the company was storing as much data as you are claiming, play store would never allow them to go live in the first place. Second, if you’ve linked you gmail account to some app there’s an option in google’s privacy setting to terminate the link between the apps. Go to data and privacy —> thirdparty apps and services –> select the app –> delete all connections which you have with the app.
Now simply go to security, log out all your active sessions and then reset your password.
Now enable 2 factor authentication like mobile no or authenticator app.
Also make sure no mobile enable other than your phone in google prompts.
