UI went to pickup my friend from her pg(she basically is living in pg and preparing for exams) and then we were sitting and talking in car near her pg at around 7:30PM on a 2 lane road suddenly a police car came from wrong side without siren and anything and just parked in front of my car 2 policemen came to window and called me out, I asked for the reason they shouted , “Bahar aa sawal mat kar” and then I came out of the car and then they started asking my details like phone number address and even my CASTE!! and after that I asked ,”we were not involved in any obsece act or anything then under what suspicion you are taking my details and noting number of my car.” then they started saying ,”kya pata tu ghar se bhaga ke laaya ho isse hume jaanch karni padegi iske gharwaalo se baat krni padegi” , I said but she is here with her consent and she is adult and we both aren’t intoxicated either, then they started abusing and threatning me by saying, “zyada batameez hogya tu zyada padh lia kya caste hai teri terko pata nahi hume power hai poochtach ki chal thane koi kaatke fek jaayega tab hum hi yaad aayenge” and then they harrassed us for about 20 minutes after that I called my friend who pretended to be a lawyer and talked to them and then they let us go after shouting.
My friend got a panic attack and I had to drop her back to her pg. I am feeling really disgusted by this can you tell me what else could I have done or law which I could have known so to avoid similar instamces in future.

UPerhaps consider investing in a dashcam for the car? It’ll record incidents like this, and also while driving.
A couple of times when cops pulled me over they noticed it and just said go. -

UNope. They use the process of the law to harass people. I mean, if you do go to court, you will be acquired. But the process of getting a lawyer, getting a court date etc will drain you out of your money and ruin your life.

PThe just saw a male and female together lonely in a car. Chance to frighten you especially the girl and make free money for evening drinks. You want justice, go to station uncharged and complaint. They will laugh and you will have to go upto CP. It won’t be easy. So, next time be smart and meet at cafe or restaurant.

UAlways have a lawyer at your disposal and whenever these type of Cops harass you just tell them you are calling your lawyer and he will deal with them and simply call the lawyer and ask them to talk to him.
Most of the time these kind of Cops look for easy prey who can pay up when threatened but the moment you involve a lawyer they will know that they cannot say or do anything against the law since it can be challenged in the court and if a case is filed in court whether under civil lawsuit or human rights , the promotion and increment of these type of Cops will be postponed until the case is disposed in the court so they will not take that risk.
Never talk to these kind of Cops when questioned. Say you have the right to seek legal counsel and hence you will call your lawyer since you prefer an expert dealing on your behalf to make sure your fundamental and constitutional rights are not violated just like the cops are dealing on law’s behalf.
But don’t threaten them or make a false phone call. Have a genuine lawyer at your disposal and make him talk to the cops instead of you responding to their questions.

UYeah I’ll start looking for someone right away from now on but still I had a question like what if your legal counsel in unreachable at that moment or your phone is switched off what procedure should you follow to handle such situation and what laws you should know for the same.

UThe point is to make them aware of the fact that they aren’t dealing with an uninformed individual who might succumb to their fear tactics. If the lawyer is not available then at least you can continue to call him to stall the cops while asking what sections have you violated from the legal perspective and how does it stand when compared to your fundamental right of freedom of movement in this country as a citizen provided you have also not parked the car in a no parking zone or do not possess anything illegal in your car like dope or drinks.
As long as you have a clean slate and you parking the car is not obstructing the traffic or causing any inconvenience the cops at most can only slap few of the acts under the motor vehicle act and nothing more than that which also can be challenged.
Cops often will try to incite you when they realize you are a tough cookie to slam the misbehaving charges and causing law and order situation which is why it is important to not get carried away by their misdemeanor but to handle the situation tactfully by talking legal.
Only an officer can give you a case.
I had one incident where I was out with my girlfriend walking on the pavement and two plain cloth police officer tried to threaten me into paying bribe because they had a concealed gun and I had a bottle of soft drink mixed with alcohol. Although they were able to get 200 bucks from me and I paid them to get off the situation but I also immediately called the local police after they were gone and complained about them on taking the bribe.
Luckily the officer in charge was on a beat nearby so I was able to meet him and drive sense to him that consumption of alcohol is illegal in public place but the possession of it after buying it legally is not illegal.
The two cops were called to the place and I got my money back along with an apology.
Fear begets fear. The cops also have fear and that’s why you won’t ever see them messing with lawyers, politicians or wealthy people because they know they can be fucked badly if they mess with the wrong people.
For a common man the only defense is to know your rights and your laws. Most of the cops don’t even know the sections under which a certain crime needs to be charged especially the ones you see on the road.
Know your rights, know your law. always keep a lawyer handy and be an upright citizen and as long as you have not done anything wrong, stand your ground and challenge their misdemeanor. The cops don’t generally risk it with the ones who they find to be educated and with good sources!

UI didn’t mind them talking to my parents but instead of talking they took my phone when I said you could talk to my parents and threaten to call my friend’s parents and ask them if she hadn’t eloped from home or something now her family is in another city so that would certainly would have caused a lot of problems for her.

UThey surely then were banking on the hunch that most likely the girl parents wont know that she is meeting a male and they could pressurise you into paying money. Happened with me one time too. They asked me to call my parents and I just plainly told them that I am an adult and I wont do it. Then can take me to a police station and do a FIR if they think that I have broken a law. My parents would most likely scold me for roaming late night out but they would sue the hell out of them for harassing me while I was just out doing nothing. I also called the people walking nearby to call 100 so I could complain to the police emergency number that I was being harassed. Never give them your phone. Just imagine if they were fake police. Things could have been worse. They left when I wasn’t scared and starting shouting for someone to call 100. They always bank on your fear.

Just play humble … My friend made them talk to her Elder sister.. and we just played along… I mean I literally live around lawyers itna basic law to hai ki tum faltu ki bakchodi me kisiko arrest ya police station nhi leke Jaa sakte… Without any valid proof of nuisance… Uparse they demanded that I pay a chalan I asked why they said “Because you are in a secluded road” mere dimaag me gaaliyon ka pahad aagya tha .. me bola kis baat ka.. me to nhi bharunga uparse SP ke paas tumhari complaint bhi daalunga .. chutiye thulle bkc inki

UI mean my friend wasn’t comfortable involving any of her family so they sensed it and harassed more then yeah they were just constable and head constable still they were being very rude and trying to assert dominance for nothing.

LNowadays police scam are also going on …some policeman coming up in fake police dress and asking money for NGO etc .
Might be that was the case of fake policeman harrassing you or could be the real one too .Where did it happened ?

SHappend to me too. 30 mins harrased. I knew they wanted money. I played along. After 20 mins they were like pay 5000 and go. I was right entire time about their intentions. Then came down to 1000 after negotiating. I told I only have 200rs. They took that and they switched their character suddenly and became friendly. After that they guided me in bike to nearby petrol bunk and told me this is safer place to chill.

UI think Indian parents need to be more open about modern society. Most of the time police harasses on these grounds is because they know that people will be scared to call their parents and inform they were sitting in car with opposite gender.
