January 13, 2025 at 8:50 pmParty A got an FIR filed against them by party B (relatives). B accused A of forging signatures on a will and accused A of threatening, intimidation etc. Both parties have different versions of the same dead relative’s will. Now, well before this FIR was filed, court proceedings began regarding the validity of both their wills. This court case was initiated by A and B is well aware of it, not sure if B revealed this to the police before filing the FIR… Regarding the accusations of threats and intimidation, B hasn’t filed a single evidence, only a forensic report according to which B’s will is genuine and A’s forged.
Problem is, A is cooperating and responding to most, if not all, summons, notices, filing the necessary documents etc with the police but their responses and their side of the story are not making it to the police reports.
Even to get their initial statement filed and to bring to notice the fact that the earlier mentioned court case is still ongoing, party A approached the commissioner’s office at least twice. Even then, the police station did not file A’s statement because some key officials there had asked A to pay a bribe. A did not pay the bribe but was called several weeks later out of the blue by the police station to immediately come and file their statement at around 7:40 in the evening which is basically EOD(end of the day). They did it without taking the bribe.
The so called investigation by the police goes on and they are about to file the FR(final report, I think). To “make” the FR in A’s favor, some senior officers are again asking A for a bribe otherwise A is facing some serious punishment. Again pointing out that no evidences of threats or intimidation were filed by B against A but A is still scared because the sections in the FIR warrant life imprisonment.
At some point it is also found that A had asked for a copy of the FIR whose FR is supposed to be filed but the police refused to handover a copy of the FIR.
After all this, B files another complaint against A at a different police station, this time accusing A of murder or attempted murder of the dead relative mentioned earlier. For now, only time will tell how this complaint and it’s investigation goes.
In all this, is there any way out of this messy and risky situation for A?
A has consulted several lawyers about this but all of them suggest paying the bribe and to “settle” the matter without creating a fuss, particulary because there is a senior officer involved in this case who is known to most in law enforcement and among most lawyers in the city as someone who doesn’t work without getting his bribe.
Can A or some anonymous person blow the whistle to higher authorities for them?
What evidences would be necessary for A to be taken seriously? Are call/audio recordings enough? Because ofc, video+audio recording is near impossible to make.
How can A protect themselves from the possible backlash of this whistleblowing whether by A or an anon person?
I’ll try to gather more details if needed, let me know in the comments…

January 13, 2025 at 10:41 pmHere is some free education for you. The cops bribe politicians for lucrative postings. The citizens give votes to the politicians and bribes to the cops. It is a well oiled capitalist democracy. Who are you going to complain to? That’s for the movies and the outlier case that grabs headlines. The rest need contacts and cash. Welcome to India.-

January 14, 2025 at 6:51 amWas very well aware of all you said. Wouldnโt have bothered with such a lengthy post because a close childhood friend is stuck in all this through absolutely no fault of his own. Iโm starting to worry about his mental health. Are you a lawyer though? Is it possible for my friend to get of this by simply, irrevocably letting go of all there is to gain from the disputed will? After all, inheritance of some serious assets is at the center of all thisโฆ-

January 14, 2025 at 3:20 pmNAL. There isn’t any legal issue here unless someone is in possession of an irrefutable final will. Without that, it’s a case of lottery in the courts and bribes for the cops. Either pay up and fight it out or let go of all claims once the other party drops all cases and pays some acceptable amount.-

January 14, 2025 at 3:51 pmThis may not work. My friend told me they discussed this route with some people they know. Thereโs no telling if B will ever withdraw their complaints or not continue to play such legal terrorism tactics on them if A decides to let go of all claims. Same thing happened with their distant relatives.
