We have discovered that someone has secretly recorded videos of our house through the ventilation, and we strongly suspect that even private areas, including the bathroom, may have been recorded. We have video evidence of this invasion of privacy.

We reported the matter to the police, but they refused to file an FIR and only made a general diary entry, dismissing the case by saying it “will not happen again.” It appears that they are trying to protect the accused instead of taking action.

We escalated the matter to the Superintendent of Police but they merely redirected it to the same police station, which still refuses to register the FIR.

What legal steps can we take to ensure that an FIR is lodged? Are there any authorities or organisations we can contact to intervene?

File a complaint before the Judicial Magistrate or Metropolitan Magistrate under Section 156(3) of the CrPC, requesting them to direct the police to register an FIR and conduct an investigation.

*Key Legal Provisions in Your Favor*

            Section 354C IPC (Voyeurism)

Section 66E IT Act (Violation of Privacy)

Section 166A IPC (Punishment for police refusing to register FIR in cases of serious offenses)

Since you have video evidence, a proper legal approach will compel authorities to act.

There are several levels above SP too. Meet them in order of hierarchy.
Even if one of them is honest, your work will be done.
                  SP – SSP – DIG – IG – DGP.
