January 16, 2025 at 5:37 pmI recently received a call from my nearest police station for verification. They asked me to bring my passport-sized photograph and a copy of my Aadhar card to verify my address. But, the address on my Aadhar card is different from the one I provided while applying for the passport. For the address proof in my passport application, I used my bank passbook since I currently live at that address and did not use my Aadhar card as proof anywhere in the application. The police officials, however, are insisting that only the address on the Aadhar card will be accepted for police verification, not any other document. I tried to explain and insisted they accept the bank passbook as a valid proof of address, but they refused.
I have applied online for an address change in my Aadhar card, but the update will take a few days. The police are now saying that they will cancel my verification, and I will have to visit the passport office again to reschedule another verification.
My question is: Are the police officials correct, or is a bank passbook also considered valid proof of address for police verification?

January 16, 2025 at 5:50 pmYea whatever address you have on your aadhar is your home address and you need to keep updating it if you’re moving for jobs or shifting,OP you have to redo the entire process again just remember aadhar is the basic and the most accepted form of proof of identity.-

January 16, 2025 at 8:52 pmNo bro it’s not always like that. Aadhar is the primary proof of identification and if you are from an area A and having aadhar with address B nothing’s gonna help you there.-

January 17, 2025 at 4:11 pm>if you are from an area A and having aadhar with address B nothing’s gonna help you there. The passport office has accepted whatever address proof OP has, else the application would never have come for police verification.
All the cops need to do for verification is make sure that OP is residing at the location given in the address proof. Aadhaar address is irrelevant.
In fact, aadhaar is just one of the “acceptable documents”, not a necessary document.

January 17, 2025 at 4:17 amFor address verification, they should actually come to the place and verify. Atleast, that’s how they do in my area
