Policeman Parked A Car & Walked Off

My friend has an automotive repair workshop. 6 days ago, a policeman with another man in civilian dress, came in an old battered Honda City to the workshop, said that the car is low on petrol and will come an hour later to pick it up, only to never return. They gave no contact number, no details about themselves or the car. The car is parked right outside the perimeter of the workshop. The workshop is covered by CCTV, however there’s only one camera covering the entry/exit. He has footage of the men coming in the car, but their faces are not clear.

Given this situation, it’s obvious that my friend is thinking of the worst case scenario that this car must’ve been used for some illegal activity, and doesn’t want to get caught in any mess of sorts.

What is the best solution to go ahead in this case?

Call traffic police towing dept and get the car towed

Since the person who parked this car was himself a policeman, if he turns up a few days later, won’t this cause trouble in the future?

You can inform that you dont know, you thought he came back and went. By the time they ask you may say camera was not working or data is overwriteen

Since the car is parked in the road, you owe nothing to them. It’s their responsibility to take care of the car. They might have took the car themselves.

just show ignorance, that you are unaware. And mention that you did see few cops come and tow a car.

If the police show reluctance in picking up the vehicle, spread word that a car (*the* car) serves as a Love shack after midnight.

There’ll be a few handsy couples trying it out but the more people try, the sooner there’ll be cops to apprehend them and take the car in their custody

This is a serious red flag. Your friend should immediately file a written report with the police, stating the facts and submitting any available CCTV footage. This protects him legally and shifts responsibility to the authorities. Also, document the car’s condition and keep records.
