March 6, 2025 at 8:55 amPolicybazaar scammed me. I had purchased a health insurance policy from HDFC Ergo, which included a renewal benefit that doubled the insured amount. I had been regularly paying my insurance premiums for the last 10 months without any issues. However, this month, I discovered that my premiums for the past four months had not been paid, despite Policybazaar deducting the amount from my account regularly.I have proof of these deductions. In cases where there were system errors, Policybazaar executives would call me to ensure I made the payment, which I did. However, last month, I noticed that two of my premium payments were refunded to me. When I contacted their executives, they informed me that my premiums had not been paid for the last four months, leading to the expiration of my policy, which cannot be renewed.
As a result, not only have I lost the โน7,000โโน8,000 I had already paid over the initial months, but I am also being denied the renewal benefits I had been counting on. What should I do? Should I demand compensation, file a claim, or take legal action against Policybazaar? Please advise.

March 6, 2025 at 9:08 amImmediately escalate the situation. Write to the CEO, regional managers and all contacts you can find. Start a proper email trail – keep the tone assertive (do not use any emotions) and back everything up with facts. In the emails, clearly mention that this is a deficiency in service as per the Consumer Protection Act. This is 9/10 times enough for the company to understand that you will go ahead with legal action. Do not directly threaten legal action unless you are actually willing to file cases with IRDA and Consumer courts.
Also, use social media (Twitter, Linkedin) to bring this issue to their attention. Matter is most likely to get resolved amicably provided you have all proofs for the claims you have made.
Good luck.

March 6, 2025 at 11:12 amThat is good news! I think this aligns with what you want, right?Go ahead with it – but also drop an email under the guise of thanking them for resolving it quickly – but clearly mention the issue that happened and for them to ensure it does not happen again. This will legally protect you if (God forbid) this thing happens again.

March 7, 2025 at 7:36 pmTell them reinstate your old policy. Put it on IRDAI portal. Thats why its recommended to buy from an advisor.
I as a customer had a horrible similar experience with Policybazar, and hence I started my own insurance advisory business to ensure people are not being cheated.
