February 21, 2025 at 10:20 amThe cab I was traveling by was involved in an accident and it hit a little girl whose arm was broken due to accident. The police are asking me to be a witness. What’s my role in this? Can I walk out? The parents of the girl are filing a case against the driver. What am I supposed to do?
Please guide me.

February 21, 2025 at 10:25 amThat is the truth. I was a rider sitting in the back seat. The accident happened.Am I supposed to be the witness? What am I supposed to do here? Should I just leave and let the driver and child’s family handle it on their own?

February 21, 2025 at 10:29 amSince you were riding in the vehicle in question you are a witness whether you have seen anything or not, you will be asked to give your statement. Please tell the truth. Without any missing any important detail and even if you have not seen anything or if you feel you cannot judge who might be right in the situation express that in your statement.

when they say, “tell the truth”, they are answering your specific question on “what am i supposed to do?”. they are saying what you’re supposed to do is relay what you saw to the authorities; in essense, tell *them* the truth.

February 21, 2025 at 10:27 amTechnically it was the fault of the girl. But in India, the one who has more wheels and a bigger vehicle gets blamed.-

February 21, 2025 at 10:41 amIn that case try to say that. If you don’t want to blame the girl fearing the family members, maximum you can say is that the driver was not at fault. Instead of using active voice use passive voice in a sentence while giving statement.

February 21, 2025 at 10:29 amAnswer the questions to the best of your knowledge and recollection. You don’t need to lie or take anyone’s side here. You are expected to be a witness as you were in the car when the accident happened. You can reject now, but will have to go to court if there is a summons against you. Better to just cooperate man, as simple as that.

February 21, 2025 at 10:31 amThe girl’s parents are filing an FIR and they are stating that I was the passenger. Does that mean that I am supposed to give my statement to the cops?-

February 21, 2025 at 10:36 amIf the cops call you to give your statement, go and give the statement. If they don’t, don’t give. As simple as that.-

February 21, 2025 at 10:39 amMeans I can’t leave the city today? This accident happened on the way to airport as I was about to catch a flight. Can I still go? I belong to the city where the accident happened and was going to attend a wedding.-
