Hi – I am (M) about to be married in a month and I have heard horror stories around divorce and alimony and payouts by the husband. I want to know if there is a way to safeguard my assets (house, stocks, employer RSUs) before I get into marriage officially. By safeguarding I mean if things go south later unfortunately, my pre-marriage assets remain safe and not to be liable for sharing in case of dispute. Any post marriage gained assets/money I understand will get liable for sharing.

Happy to hear experience / knowledge from lawyer as well as no lawyer community. And if someone could connect to a lawyer specializing in this, happy to take their services, thanks!

I’m not aware of any way you can protect your assets. Unfortunately in this country, prenuptial agreement is not legal. If your wife decides to destroy your and your family’s life in the future, she is free to do so, and the laws will support her.

Move them to your mother’s name.

very cheeky reply and unfortunately one with max votes. getting into marriage is a conscious decision with a partner I know I want to be. It doesn’t mean that I can’t safeguard my interests and take precautions as nobody knows the future.

Why isn’t a prenup being suggested?

you can transfer your assets to trust or transfer your asset to your parents name. ( I am not a lawyer )
