I befriended someone who later asked for money. Believing he genuinely needed help, I lent him a significant amount. A few months later, I discovered he was a scammer and had been doing this for a long time. I contacted his family, but they refused to help. The transaction was made online, and I also have some form of agreement with him via email. It’s been two years, and despite repeatedly asking for my money back, he remains unresponsive. His phone is switched off, his location is unknown, and only his Instagram is active. Is there anything I can do?

call again and this time tell them accused pretended to be from bank employee and tricked you into sending money for kyc purpose and assured you that he will return money but didn’t return

If you have a semblance of an agreement and transfer of money which is tax paid income, you can sue him in local court

Lawyer here. How much was the amount which you lent. There are multiple ways to approach it. Some are time taking but ethical, some may be shorter.

Not online , I met him in Himachal and he was friend of a friend. My frnd knew him for a year. Looking back I feel it so stupid of me, but lol yeah I did that

In that case, you should definitely lawyer up and put efforts in recovering that amount. Choose your lawyer wisely though.

Phone’s off, no trace on social media, wrong Aadhar address, and his family claims they kicked him out long ago , no one knows where he is.

They said you have lent him money , nothing we can do about this . There aren’t women police station in our area. I live in some remote place in Rajasthan.
