        Lost passport years ago

I didn’t know where to post this so I’ll ask here.

My mother is schizophrenic, she is barely functioning mentally and never cooperates with anything. When me and my brother were children, she lost our passport. I’ve been told that you’re supposed to report it asap when you lose it. But considering that my mom is incapable of doing that (she has a lot of delusions and would never go anywhere near any doctors or police) we never filed an fir.

Now that I’m older and a legal adult I want to know what I should do. I want to file an fir myself but I’m worried that it would require my mother’s cooperation and that is just impossible. I do have her medical reports that prove that she’s schizophrenic. Idk what steps to take. Someone advice please…

        (My father has passed away)

Contact passport office and ask old passport number. Don’t say details about parents. Be simple.

What do I do with the number once I get it? And generally what info do I need to keep at hand when asking the number.

(Sorry I’m making you spoon feed me, ngl I’m kinda scared of passport offices cause my friend had a bad experience with them that freaked me out 😭)

Apply for renewal of passport. Mention details of old passport in the application. It’s completely online at https://passportindia.gov.in/

Imo, no need to involve your mother. You can simply say misplaced and get the fir registered.

Will that be alright? I’m aware that things are strict with passports since it’s generally an international matter, so I don’t want to make any mistakes. And won’t it be Shady to say “misplaced about 15 years ago”

I would suggest simple reason like misplaced while shifting homes sort of thing.

So do you have passport number?

Its illegal. Go and file a complaint that it was lost 15 years ago and give a complaint in the jurisdiction police station only based on the town it was lost. People gave practical suggestions but you keep asking silly questions.

Do you have copy of your old passport if so you can file a fir stating your mother was carrying passport she lost it on the way. Since she is schizophrenic. If you don’t have old copy take an appointment with regional passport office. Main office of the state explain them the situation then you can apply for new passport.
