UHi guys, my family surname is Sharma but due to one mistake in my 10th class all my legal documents(education, aadhar, pan, etc.) have Kumar as my surname. My parents also don’t use Sharma, only my sister and cousins do.
I am somehow connected to this surname, don’t know if it’s right or wrong. I get an identity crisis seeing all my cousins using this surname and I am the only one using Kumar.
Whenever I fill a form or someone asks my full name I feel a mental pushback to say its Kumar and an urge to say its Sharma.
In all my social accounts, emails, website domain, I am using sharma as my surname. I feel very bad when people ask why are you using Sharma when your docs say you are “Kumar”? I then have to explain the 10th class story to them and they don’t seem convinced.
I am 25 years old so my school and college certificates have Kumar as the surname.
I don’t want to lose connect with Sharma surname and use Kumar everywhere possible due to this reason I was thinking of changing it to Sharma(before I create my passport and create other docs in future).
Would it be possible without a lot of hassle and would I face any issues in the future?As my education certificates will have Kumar and after publishing the central gazette assuming I’ll be able to change it in other docs and they’ll have Sharma.
Please help, this question is giving me a lot of stress from the past few days.

Qits a fairly simple process to get it done, just focus on one document and then use that to change name in all of them

Because of the caste system,
sharma is the brahmin surname,
and kumar is usually used by those who thought that caste based surname was a issue and changed their surname to kumar during the caste violence period of Bihar,
But in the vishwaguru bharat casteism is resurging and is at the highest level since independence,
That’s why kumar is perceived as a lover caste than sharma,
and you may have perceived disrespect when using a non brahmin surname.
Our country has gone from bull shit to human shit in vishguru’s tenure.
But usually history repeats itself,
people will probably catch up with the religion BS and caste based violance will re-start at mass level again.
Then u will be thankful for that neutral surname than casteist one.
It may give some ego boost for now but in the long run it would be harmful in my opinion.
