February 9, 2025 at 8:29 amI’m selling the things (decorative lighting, water tank, etc) that I bought with my own money and I’m not selling anything that they paid for. Yet my shop landlord keeps arguing with me and told me that I should not have sold my stuff to others. We had this discussion many days ago where I clearly stated that I’m obviously going to sell the things that are mine unless they are willing to pay for the items. They denied paying for my items but instead told me that the new tenant would pay for it. So I asked the new tenants if they would be paying for my items and they declined. As a result, I told the new tenants that I will be selling my stuff because I paid for these.
After I sold my stuff, the landlord repeatedly calls me just to blabber about how I did such a wrong and heinous deed.
What’s the logic here? Do they really have the right to tell me not to sell my own stuff or even ask me to get their permission before selling these? It’s all so ridiculous to think that they could even argue about this.
I didn’t sell their stuff nor did I damage their property. They are just worried about the money they would have to spend in case the new tenant wants those items.
Now, I need to get my security deposit back from them. So I am withholding the key till they give me the deposit but they are vehemently arguing with me about this as well. They are saying that they have to have one key to their property no matter what. But if I give them the key, what’s the guarantee that they will return my deposit, given how miserly they have been acting and behaving with me till date?
Please, lawyers, advise me.
TLDR: Shop landlord argued with me because I sold the stuff including lighting, furniture, etc that I bought with my money. No damage done to their property at all. They are asking me for the key but what’s the guarantee that they will return my security deposit if I do that, given their past miserly behaviour with me? Seeking genuine advice from lawyers here.
Edit: Also accused me of having no humanity. The reason? I’m not giving my stuff to them for free.

February 9, 2025 at 9:24 amDon’t know if I’m correct but read somewhere that this is a civil matter and hence, the FIR doesn’t help much.-

February 9, 2025 at 11:22 amJust go to the police and ask for help they might come along with you to the landlords house and settle the thing or else if they donβt refund after that as well send legal notice and file a case in the court.

February 10, 2025 at 7:23 pmJust don’t argue with her.Use rental agreement points and if she still does not agree then visit nearby police and explain and they will call and warn her.
Tell her to handover the deposit on the final day and you need that for the next rental place deposit. Then only you will give the keys.
