UHi all, so someone’s been giving out my number on an online chatroom (chatib) and I’ve gotten three random messages from there in the past hour. Numbers messaging are not just indian, saw a nepali number on there too.
I don’t know if this is someone giving out a random number and just got lucky that it actually exists, or if this is someone doing it with a malicious intent, and as a woman it worries me as if my number is being shared, i don’t know what other details are. There are people i am not on great terms with that are capable of doing this. But without proof i cannot accuse.
Anyway I’m just sticking to blocking these random numbers when they message me. I just wanted to preemptively ask for legal advice here incase the situation escalates, as a method of precaution. So please do drop some advice. Is just sticking to blocking best?

QBlocking is a good immediate method,
The second is reporting it directly to the platform you mentioned if you have access to the message or the channel your number is being shared into they can take action against the user or the channel.
And third is reporting to the cyber security helpline you can file a complaint online too But you’ll probably need some proof so save the screenshots of the messages you are getting. If you are feeling scared reach out to your family members or friends don’t just keep it to yourself.

The two other numbers i had no idea what they told as they had deleted by the time i had seen the messages. I’ve just blocked and hope this is it. If any other messages come through I’m gonna let family members know..
As a woman this just scares me. World out there is scary.
