April 21, 2025 at 9:10 amHey folks,I need some advice about a situation I’m dealing with right now. In December 2024, I found a flat in Noida through some roommates who had vacated their place. The deal was that I had to pay βΉ51,000 β βΉ34,000 for a security deposit and βΉ17,000 for one month’s rent. We agreed that I would pay βΉ17,000 as rent and βΉ17,000 as part of the deposit, and the rest of the deposit would be paid once my name was added to the lease.
I transferred βΉ34,000 to one of the roommates, and I moved in at the start of January 2025. But even though I kept asking for the next few months, my name was never added to the lease. I kept getting ignored, and nobody gave me any info about the owner.
On March 6, 2025, two of the roommates told me I needed to pay the remaining βΉ17,000 deposit to have my name added to the lease. But that same day, my parents confirmed they were moving to Noida, so I told them I would be leaving by the end of April. I ended up clearing the room and leaving by April 8, 2025.
Hereβs the kicker β despite me paying everything, the flat is still under the old tenant’s name. The roommates are refusing to give me back my deposit or let me talk to the owner, saying it’s not their problem. I asked for the owner’s contact details to sort it out, but they refused to give it to me.
Iβm feeling totally stuck here and donβt know what my next steps should be. Has anyone dealt with something similar or have any suggestions on what I can do to get my deposit back?
Any advice would be super helpful!

April 21, 2025 at 1:44 pmTry getting the owner number from the association. And if not, approach police. If these people are professionals, it will scare them as it is a shame.
