I urgently need help. I’ve been stuck in a **never-ending loop between IRCTC and my old bank (Federal or Jupiter),** over a UPI refund to my closed bank account. It’s been **over two months**, and I still haven’t received my money!

        Here’s how the chaos unfolded:

        🔹 **Sept 2024**: Booked two IRCTC tickets via UPI (₹8,975 + ₹9,050).

🔹 **Dec 2024**: Closed my Federal Bank account (which was linked to the UPI ID).

🔹 **Dec 2024 – Jan 2025**: Partially cancelled these tickets in two separate instances; IRCTC confirmed refunds were processed, to process the refund further, they asked for a closure letter.

🔹 **Jan 16**: Contacted IRCTC with it, and they gave me RRN numbers, saying the refund was credited to the bank. I contacted Federal bank on the same day.

🔹 **Jan 29**: Federal Bank replies after 13 days and denies receiving it, claiming they verified the RRN with **NPCI and have no recor**d of the transactions.

🔹 **Jan 30**: Contacted IRCTC with the above-mentioned details and required mail copies. They auto-closed the query, asking for my bank account statement PDF to get the refund in my new account.

🔹 **Feb 7**: Took me a week to get it and then sent bank statements to IRCTC.

🔹 **Feb 13**: After weeks of redundant conversation, they responded **with the same RRN number**s but with a screenshot this time and told me to check with my bank (again).

🔹 **Feb 25**: Shared the same with Federal Bank, they finally say **since my UPI ID is now linked to SBI, the refund should have gone there and I should contact them**—why didn’t they mention this weeks earlier?!

Now, **both banks and IRCTC are blaming each other**, yet to receive a reply from SBI, it feels like I’m stuck in a limbo with **no money and no definite answers.** What’s the best way to escalate this? and get my refund.

Should I escalate this with RBI or NPCI? I’ve honestly lost all patience and am also a bit scared. I am a college student and the sum is quite large for me.

Please help me with all possible suggestions. Thank you!

          Raise it with RBI Ombudsman.

Sorry, should’ve been clearer in my ask.

I need screenshots that irctc shared. Feb 13.

While ombudsman is best bet; I’m trying to figure out the payment gateway used. You can check many details on their platform as well.

Hi yes, the bank reference number in this screenshots and the RRN IRCTC shared is the same. I shared it for the sake of simplicity, as the IRCTC one is large with lots of data. They used the Paytm Payment Gateway that I figured out from their replies.

                              Then irctc is not correct.

                              This is how it works:
                              – when you make payment, there is a number called ARN(acquirer reference number) which some people mistakenly call RRN. This is the same number you have in screenshot. This flows to payment gateway, and the same number is with the merchant as well.
                              – when merchant makes a refund, they generate RRN and it is different than the ARN. You’ll see it with refund entry in the bank. Clearly, irctc hasn’t shared this. Ask for it.
