Summon Notice from Police

Hi today I received a investigation summon notice from Economic office wing (EOW) Delhi police on my WhatsApp, that notice was addressing to my boss, (Founder of the company).
But this notice also includes my contact number in the address section. As they have taken this from our official website and my number was included there.

I verifed the contact number and it is legit, what should I do in this case?

There was an High Court ruling recently on not to send summons by WhatsApp.

Send it your boss. You dont have to worry. The summon is not in your name.

Relax… Police will not serve summons on whatsapp. This is a scam. Ignore it.

ADVOCATE HERE. Police often sends notice via whatsapp, not exactly ethical. HOWEVER, don’t mess with EOW. Send someone ON YOUR BEHALF or send a written letter to EOW clarifying whatsoever it is. Don’t go in person until so adviced by your advocate. My best wishes.

The notice is in the name of my boss, my contact number is mentioned there in the address section. Do I need to respond?

100%. For EOW, you are basically the media of scam right now. They presume YOUR NUMBER to be the number of the accused/boss. Get their facts corrected before they come to arrest you.

At least search the number on TC and for whatever reason don’t contact anyone through electronic means get a lawyer to send a request to redact your number or file an affidavit regarding your status and compliance with the investigation.

Get a lawyer as soon as possible. Go to police station with your lawyer. Going alone is not advisable.

EOW is very powerful. Most of them are good at their job. So get an advocate and clarify your position before it’s too late.

Read and check its language. Scammers make stupid mistakes They will add the wrong law section and grammatical mistakes etc

Don’t do anything. Cops don’t send messages on WhatsApp. They call you from proper CUG number. Chill

If summon is not in your name, just send them “wrong number”, i am not (person mentioned in summon).

This seems like a scam. Verify through the sources. Ask a lawyer. Spend couple of thousands to keep your peace of mind
