Few days ago, I made an order on Swiggy Instamart of around Rs. 800. After it got delivered, I saw that one of the items I ordered, Creatine (costing around Rs. 500), was unsealed and was clearly a duplicate product. I raised a complaint and asked for a replacement. They said it is not available and they can provide coupons because it was COD. As the max coupon value they can give was Rs. 500 and my order was more than that, they gave me 3 coupons to use – Rs. 500, 50 and 25. All valid for 30 days.

Then the next day, I saw in the morning that all 3 coupons were there in my account but in the evening when I decided to order something, the Rs. 500 coupon just vanished. It’s just not there while the other 2 coupons are there. I even tried applying the coupon code but they say it is not applicable for my account. I have reinstalled app, logged out, cleared caches but nothing helps.

Now here is where Swiggy scammed me. When I complained on the customer care chat, they said they can see the coupon from their side in my account. I gave them all the proofs from my side but they just won’t do anything except saying that we have escalated it to the team. One guy from their team told me that I will get a resolution in 48 hours and if not, they will reinitiate the coupon. More than 48 hours have passed and they just won’t do anything except copy pasting the same answer that we have escalated it to the team.

Their email support is even worse. The guys just keeps copy pasting the same email asking for more details. He doesn’t even change anything in the email, simple copy and paste. I have provided the details a million times to them.

Is there any solution? If you are a lawyer then please explain the consumer helpline process and will it be worth it or not.

First, send an email to Swiggy complaining about your issue with relevant details. If they donโ€™t respond or resolve the issue, call the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) or register your complaint through the NCH website.

If this doesnโ€™t resolve your issue, you may consider sending a legal notice. However, since the amount involved is just Rs. 800, itโ€™s probably not worth the time and effort to pursue the matter in court.

Emailing them did not work. If I register complaint through NCH website, will it be a troublesome process?

Registering a complaint on the NCH website is a straightforward process. However, it is important to note that NCH does not have the authority to adjudicate disputes; it can only help facilitate amicable resolution.

Do companies listen to them then? Also, will I need to go to the court then?

That is frustrating. There are few options, you can try that. Escalate it on social media or you can file a complaint at NCH or call 1915. If that doesn’t resolve it then you can file at the District Consumer Forum. You donโ€™t need a lawyer for this, but having one helps.

Do I need to physically go to the court after filing the complaint?
