January 19, 2025 at 3:37 amWe were at the theatre with family for a movie and at the parking while I was reversing my car hit another and there was damage to his car as front bumber got dent but none to mine. This guy came up to me in heat and i accepted my mistake I told him we can go to station and file a complaint and move legally. He was drunk and he refused and also I got to know later his vehicle doesn’t have valid insurance. The conversion ended and I have gone to the theatre. After next day only we noticed there was an intentional scratch on right side from one end to the other end which was done intentionally. We filed a complaint and I have asked the theatre for cctv. But now there is no proof as he was drunk (also there was his wife with him) other than my family. Even if the cctv doesn’t have footage of him doing or what if we testify we saw him doing what is the legality in this case please help. -

January 19, 2025 at 3:45 amThe amount of headache, money spent , police things is not proportionate to the amount spent at garage. Have faced these many times buddy.-

January 19, 2025 at 2:48 pmTrue. Thats why everyone is gearing up with dashcams these days. Solid proof is a minimum for the police to entertain your case these days.Get a dashcam that’s hooked up to ur battery so it records when the car is off as well.
Also mate, let it go. Take the scratch as a lesson and move on. I’ve been down the same road and nobody will chase this fellow down. It’s not worth the trouble. Karma will get him one day.

January 19, 2025 at 5:20 amIt’s best to simply move on,You are simply unaware how powerless and vulnerable you are and how much underlying social contracts keep us safe, there are million different ways you can be hurt from other people and be left unable to do jackshit.

January 20, 2025 at 6:38 amYou did not pay him for his damages either, you were well aware he isn’t going to proceed legally for minor dent. Get your repairs done and move on, nothing you can do legally without proof. Your statement is not enough to proceed without proof

January 19, 2025 at 6:31 amIn that case Iβll just go and scratch every single car I see anywhere. This is not the correct way to approach such situations. If there is no punishment then that guy will keep doing it to others-

January 19, 2025 at 3:59 amWhy not just use your insurance and get it fixed it? I think it would be less of a hassle compared to filing a complaint and going through the legal process which the police arenβt even going to take seriously.Accept the L and move on my friend, happens to everyone.

January 19, 2025 at 4:30 amThere is really nothing you can do legally. If you go to the cops they will not entertain you. If you really make a fuss about it, it might result in an diary entry. On the other hand if you get the address of the car owner, there are possibilities….

January 19, 2025 at 4:55 amThe police don’t care about minor damage to private property, you’ll end up spending more “convincing” them to take action that will ultimately yield no results. Just get the paint touched up and move on.-

January 19, 2025 at 5:01 amYou asked the other party to go the legal way – rather than just paying them out of your pocket, they just gave you the taste of your medicine! One crazy option is too make a cashless claim, right exactly the details mentioned and send to the insurance company, they will ask for a FIR – at this stage now you are fighting with police and the insurance company π but once you have a police report they may launch their own investigation and try to get the other party pay – it would work better if the other party had insurance. If you want fun in your life this could be one option.

January 19, 2025 at 5:37 amNAL..OP even tho you apologized, you could have just paid the guy an amount of up to Rs. 1000/- and sorted the matter amicably.
I would suggest that you get your car fixed and move on. Peace of mind is better than trying to go to the cops and getting hassled by them. You and everyone here knows that the cops won’t do shit about your issue.
The other person was a coward. He didn’t have the balls to sort the issue man to man, and chose to do what women would generally do.
Alternatively, you can find a car’s owner by using the vehicle’s registration number on the Parivahan website or by sending an SMS.
Online
Go to the Parivahan website
Follow the procedure to check vehicle owner details
SMS
Open your phone’s messaging app
Type VAHAN followed by a space
Type the vehicle’s registration number
Send the SMS to 7738299899
The SMS will return details about the vehicle, including the owner’s name, make, model, insurance details, and RC expiry date.
You can also use the ACKO app or the VAHAN portal to check vehicle details.
(Got the above info from Google, search “find car owner by registration number”)If the above works, then You can check with a lawyer if there is anything that you can do legally and get that lawyer to file an FIR on your behalf and then see how you can go about claiming the damages to your car.
Hope this helps..
