March 11, 2025 at 4:58 pmI need advice for a friend who was hired at a independent dental clinic in January for a specialist role. The friend is a recent graduate and this is their first job.The owners of the clinic started to create a toxic environment within a few days constantly standing over my friend and criticising their work and asking them to cut corners with patient care to save on clinic expenses.
My friend tried to reason with them not to do so as it would worsen patient outcomes, but they refused to listen.
My friend bore with their toxic environment for 2 months until they applied for another job and got it.
After the job was confirmed,my friend gave them one weekโs notice to find a replacement and offered to work through the end of the month on the 2 weekends left to alleviate the patient load.
They started gaslighting my friend, telling them that thereโs no growth elsewhere and started questioning my friendโs ethics.
My friend did not sign any contract mandating a stipulated work period when they agreed to this job. There was no mention of any minimum notice period to be given before leaving the job. Also, one of my friends co workers recently quit giving one days notice.
Now,my friend has been threatened with legal action unless they agree to work till the end of the month. What do I advise my friend to do next ?What can they do if a legal notice arrives?
TL;DR:My friendโs employers threatened them with legal action after they quit despite there being no contract. -

March 11, 2025 at 5:08 pmYou need to either serve notice period mentioned in your appointment letter or pay compensation in lieu of notice period. The employer is just threatening legal action to scare you. Taking legal action is expensive, so your employer most likely will not take any legal action.
