March 24, 2025 at 3:03 pmHi everyone, I need some advice regarding inheritance and property division.I’m from India, and I chose to stay back here. I stayed employed at a company that offered better insurance coverage because my father was unwell, and I wanted to ensure he had access to good medical care. I’ve also been more involved in taking care of my parents over the years. While my siblings also took part as care givers, I had to forgo many opportunities from both abroad ar other places where the position and paystub was much better, but their insurance coverage wasn’t that great.
Now that my mother’s property is being discussed, I’m wondering—does the fact that I stayed back, took care of my parents, and made sacrifices to support them give me any legal or moral right to claim a larger share of the property?
I’m not trying to be unfair to my siblings, but I feel that my efforts and contributions over the years should be considered.
Does Indian law recognize situations like this, or is the property likely to be divided equally regardless? Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

March 24, 2025 at 3:11 pmIt’s upto your mom to decide. Why not tell her your side of the story and convince her to make a will? -

What you did was done of your own volition. In the case of intestacy, the assets will be distributed equally.
