I’m an Indian citizen who unknowingly traveled to a restricted country (Yemen) and am now facing ongoing legal issues in India.
While working for a Middle East-based client, I was sent on a short-term assignment to Yemen. At the time, I was unaware that Yemen is a restricted destination for Indian passport holders, and unfortunately, my client did not inform me of this restriction.
Six months after returning to India, I was traveling to South America for another project. During immigration checks at Mumbai Airport, officials noticed the Yemen visa stamp in my passport. I was detained, briefly jailed during processing, and later charged under IPC Section 188 and Passport Act Section 12 for violating Indian travel restrictions.
It has now been over three years, and the case is still pending in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Andheri, Mumbai. Despite paying substantial legal fees, my current lawyer has not provided any clear direction or resolution.
If anyone has experience with such cases, legal insights, or can recommend a competent lawyer who understands international travel and immigration-related issues, I would be extremely grateful.
I’m willing to share relevant documents and court filings privately for better clarity if needed.
Thank you in advance for your help, guidance, or any recommendations.

May 1, 2025 at 3:30 pmUnfortunately for OP, he was also charged with IPC 188 according to another Reddit post.My understanding is that is why his case still needs to be disposed of by a magistrate.
Edit : NAL

May 1, 2025 at 4:22 pmMan how stupid can someone be. No checking for visa for Yemen and knowing that you can’t go there? No one at immigration asked while going or coming back. No one at Yemen airport asked him? Lmao this just feels stupidity to the highest core.
